    Job Title: Phlebotomist with Processing Experience

    Company: Center for Clinical Investigation

    The position of Phlebotomist with Processing Experience at the Center for Clinical Investigation involves providing phlebotomy, processing, and medical assistant services, including sample storage and shipping, and engaging in various administrative activities to ensure the smooth operations of the units. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the role requires working within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.

    Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Quality of Team and Customer Interactions:
    • Coordinate with the team under the guidance of supervisors to maintain an efficient and high-quality phlebotomy and specimen-processing environment while offering customer-oriented services.
    • Perform administrative tasks, such as receptionist and clerical duties, to support clinic operations.
    • Ensure patient flow and assist with check-in and check-out procedures.
    • Adhere to established policies and etiquette, maintaining a civil and safe work environment.
  • Phlebotomy and Patient Interaction:
    • Prepare patients for visits and procedures, perform phlebotomy, and obtain samples following standard procedures.
    • Obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, and ensure accountability for the role.
    • Maintain professionalism and cleanliness in the work area.
  • Order Interpretation, Specimen Processing:
    • Interpret orders, process specimens, and enter data into information systems following protocols.
    • Ensure quality and timely handling of specimens.
    • Process various specimens according to established guidelines.
  • Handling, Labeling, and Shipping Specimens:
    • Label specimen containers accurately and maintain documentation as per research protocol requirements.
    • Maintain freezer storage, inventory, and distribution of specimens.
    • Respond to inquiries regarding sample storage and review reports accordingly.
  • Maintaining Equipment:
    • Ensure laboratory instrumentation meets performance standards.
    • Maintain equipment logs, perform maintenance activities, and initiate remedial actions as necessary.
    • Participate in selecting new equipment and ordering as required.
  • Maintaining Inventory and Supplies:
    • Keep an adequate supply inventory and storage, including ordering supplies and restocking rooms.
    • Ensure cleanliness and proper stocking of examination rooms and treatment areas.
    • Monitor equipment maintenance and expiration dates.
  • Maintaining Policies, Safety Standards, and Team Operational Standards:
    • Adhere to established policies, quality assurance, safety, and infection controls within the laboratory.
    • Support teamwork activities and ensure compliance with all policies.
    • Complete daily checklists and tasks as per location requirements.
  • Training and Organizational Enhancement:
    • Contribute to enhancing the laboratory environment and services.
    • Participate in education programs and assist in training new staff.
    • Engage in projects to improve customer service and work environment.

    Qualifications:

    • Phlebotomy experience and proficiency.
    • Six months of specimen processing experience preferred.
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Certificate in Phlebotomy or Medical Assisting.
    • Interpersonal, organizational, and telephone skills.
    • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain organized working conditions.
    • Competency in phlebotomy skills by the end of the introductory period.
    • Clerical experience with medical terminology.
    • Problem-solving skills and ability to make quick decisions in emergencies.
    • Effective customer service and interpersonal skills.
    • Knowledge of aseptic technique and Universal Precautions.
