Resident Assistant - Camp Counselor - Live On Campus


We are looking for highly motivated, energetic and dedicated people who want to be summer camp counselors at our summer academic camp for high school students called the TryEngineering Summer Institute.

TryEngineering is a co-ed residential engineering summer camp for rising 9th through 12th grade students held at the following exciting location


University of San Diego in San Diego, CA

RAs are in charge of keeping the students safe, and planning great events to make camp fun.


We are looking for someone who is naturally a fun, responsible, amazing person who gets the power of community and connection that the summer camp environment creates and empowers.

Talent Shows, 80's night, trivia, outdoor and indoor sports, swimming, and that is just to name a few ideas of evening events that you might hold for the campers.

We have plenty of ideas and we are always open to fun new suggestions. It's your job to see to it that students are safe, inclusive, and everyone is having a great time. Each and every student. Everything matters.


RAs are responsible for the students when they are not in class. Class is typically 9am - 4pm daily.


Our entire residential staff, directors, counselors and students live in the dorms, and have 3 square meals provided throughout the duration of the program and staff training.

Responsibilities:


  • You're expected to operate with integrity at all times.
  • You're part of a team. The team is ultimately responsible for the safety and wellbeing of every student.
  • The team is accountable for having fun. When you are authentically having fun, the students are also having a blast.
  • Decorate halls/doors.
  • The first day of each session is checkin day and it is an 'all hands on deck' day.
  • The last day of the session, after all the students have left, the team will 'flip the dorm'. Tidying up, hanging new name tags on doors, and getting everything ready for the next group of students to arrive, or get everything ready to checkout for the summer.
  • Accompany field trips: There are field trips to local sites like the field trip destinations, and some RAs accompany to provide support and supervision
  • During the days you get some downtime but, we ask you to be flexible if your assistance is needed.
  • In the evenings, you are leading/supervising activities with the students, enjoying campus, etc.
  • Airport runs: Some students arrive by plane and will need to be escorted to and from the airport. You may be tasked to do airport runs, and your director will go over this process in detail with you to make sure that you know exactly what to do and are comfortable.

Qualifications:


  • Experience working with high school students is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree, or in pursuit of something similar, is preferred.
  • Having attended any kind of summer camp or program is preferred, not required.
  • Fun, smart, quick on your feet, responsible, and amazing is preferred
  • A person of integrity and responsibility.

$2,400.00


Room and Board:

you'll stay in a dorm room with air conditioning and get the same meals our students get, often in the campus dining hall, or perhaps on a field trip for a bag lunch.

Tickets to any event you are working (when we go off campus on field trips, and if you're a chaperone, your ticket is paid for by camp)
