'The Technical University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) is one of the largest practice-oriented universities in Bavaria, covering a wide range of subjects including technology, social and economic sciences, design, and languages. We support around 9,200 students in more than 50 degree programs on their educational journey. We tackle major societal challenges such as the energy transition and the climate crisis with an innovative and international study offer. We have been pioneers in the conception of bilingual degree programs (TWIN programs), the establishment of the first undergraduate program in hydrogen technology, and the software-centered robotics program. In addition, digitalization is a key focus for our university. As part of the High-Tech Agenda Bavaria, the state of Bavaria is currently investing significantly in further expanding our university as part of the Bavarian AI network. This will result in the creation of a Center for Strong Artificial Intelligence in Würzburg and a Center for Robotics in Schweinfurt.


Our more than 240 professors are not only passionate about teaching, but also conduct applied research in collaboration with companies, institutions, and social organizations in the region.

The successful transfer of knowledge to industry and society is a hallmark of our professors, as well as interdisciplinary collaboration in ten faculties and eight research institutes.

They are supported by around 640 employees in science, technology, and administration.


Our locations in Mainfranken bring together city and countryside, culture and nature - with a wide range of leisure activities.
