_Abrams Assisted Living is an affordable senior living community, offering 54 private studio apartments designed to serve residents of the District of Columbia who are age 62+, need housing, need assistance with their activities of daily living, and have extremely low income.

We are currently looking for a dedicated Porter to join our wonderful team of Resident Services Assistants.
Full-time
Day shift: 7 am - 3:30 pm


Schedule:
Monday - Friday

The Porter is responsible for providing support to the Resident Services Department by ensuring the general maintenance and cleanliness of the Abrams Assisted Living.

The Porter will help with trash removal, housekeeping, general maintenance, and room turnover. This position shall not perform any duty for which he/she has not been trained or educated on.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Housekeeping

  • Clean and sanitize common area bathrooms daily.
  • Cleans all offices at least weekly; empty trash receptacles daily.
  • Dust and spot clean sofas/chairs daily as needed. Check for debris and vacuum as necessary.
  • Vacuum carpets sweep and mop floors, and spot clean carpets in common areas weekly and more often if necessary.
  • Vacuum dining room carpet twice daily following breakfast and dinner meals.
  • Clean the insides of windows and mirrors weekly; more often if needed.
  • Clean and water plants weekly and as needed.
  • Clean inside and outside of washers and dryers and empty lint traps daily.
  • Check for marks on walls throughout the facility daily; clean as necessary.
  • Identify potential maintenance issues and submit work orders.
  • Demonstrate safe and proper techniques for the use of chemicals and cleaning solutions.
  • Responsible for obtaining cleaning supplies, stocking cart, and maintaining a clean, neat, and orderly cart and storage area.
  • Collaborate with Resident Services Assistants to clean resident apartments as needed throughout each week. This includes bathrooms, kitchens, bedrooms and living/dining areas and floors.

Maintenance:

  • Complete work order requests for items that require repair or painting in resident apartments and common areas, including flood response and internal transfers.
  • Maintain equipment and work areas in organized, clean, and likenew conditions.
  • Maintain weekly logs of water temperatures inside all apartments and common areas, apartment housekeeping, and pull cords.
  • Seasonal responsibilities: event setup and breakdown, snow removal and treatment, and holiday decoration setup.
Miscellaneous

  • Offers support and assistance to other departments as directed and needed.
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of work areas.
  • Reports defective equipment to the Resident Services Director.
  • Reports any safety hazards in resident apartments immediately.
  • Participates in required staff training.
  • Maintains professional confidentiality regarding residents and community.
  • Maintains a consistent level of professionalism with residents, family members and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Resident Services Director or their designee.

Qualifications:


  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have or be willing to have current Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
