Job Description

Under administrative supervision, the HVAC Systems Technician provides preventive maintenance and general repair to air-conditioning and heating systems at all City facilities.

Employee is responsible for recurring reports and/or records and assembling information from more than one source of information for repair and replacement of units.

Employee has daily contact with public which requires simple courtesies and exercise of tact and diplomacy.

Job Responsibilities

Maintains City heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Performs regular preventative maintenance on various types of air-conditioning units.
Replaces belts, filters, motors, etc.
Maintains job work order logs.
Estimates costs of repair projects in terms of labor and material.
Determines which maintenance tasks the City may perform and which tasks must be performed by outside contractors.
Maintains supplies and equipment in proper manner.
Develops and maintains inventory log of all city HVAC units.
Maintains assigned City owned tools and equipment.
Technician is responsible for identification of issues related to operations and maintenance of HVAC systems and for identification of the most appropriate and cost effective means of addressing issues.
Technician will be responsible purchasing parts and materials necessary to maintain or repair HVAC components.
Assists and represents his/her immediate supervisor by performing related work activities as assigned.
Assists in preparation of scope of work, cost estimates and evaluation of HVAC bids.
Assists in preparing reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, financial reports, legal documents and government regulations.
Technician must be customer-service oriented, have a customer friendly attitude and professional appearance at all times.
Provides other job related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Requirements - 1.Job requires an accredited high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Job requires two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in HVAC maintenance and repair.
Job requires a current, valid Texas Class C driver's license.
Job requires an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) License for Coolant and Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) registration.
Knowledge of computer HVAC software and use thereof.
Must be technically proficient in electrical, plumbing, air conditioning, heating systems.
Must be able to analyze, trouble shoot, evaluate, investigate and safely operate HVAC systems and a variety of equipment as needed.
Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
Must be able to communicate effectively in English, at all levels, both orally and in writing.

Physical Requirements

Work regularly under poorer-than average conditions, where illumination, ventilation, space in which to work, or some other environmental feature is unpleasant or uncomfortable.
Ability to lift and carry heavy weights, walk, climb stairs, ladder and scaffolds, balance, scoop, kneel, crouch, pull, push, distinguish colors and drive; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Employee is subject to work hazards to include mechanical, chemical, electrical, etc.
Job requires frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds.
Additional job physical demands available upon request.

Additional Information

This positions is a safety sensitive position that may be subject to random alcohol and drug testing.
May be required to work extended hours, weekends, evenings, special events, and emergencies as needed.
May be required to be on-call during the week.
