Description

Position Summary

To assist the Head Coach in all facets of the program with emphasis on teaching and mentoring team members relative to defense, sport specific skills, NCAA II rules and regulations, individual and team development concepts as well as life skills education.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Head Coach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists the head coach in managing and directing the program.
• Assists the head coach with all aspects of the program including training, practices, player instruction, game preparation, competing and scheduling.
• Assists in the coordination of travel arrangements.
• Assists in completion and processing of paperwork as requested.
• Assists with recruiting including calling prospective student-athletes, evaluating high school and junior college players, and maintaining accurate records and data bases on the NCAA Compliance Assistant program.
• Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletic department, attends department meetings and activities as needed, and always represents the University in a positive manner when interacting with the community, alumni, coaches, the media and the general public.
• Educates and mentors student athletes in all aspects of their holistic development; mind, body and spirit.
• Establishing an environment that supports and promotes academic excellence in student-athletes
• Responsible for abiding by NCAA II compliance rules and the legislation as well as educating student-athletes about those rules.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required by the Head Coach/Vice President/Director of Athletics
• Failure to comply by NCAA II rules will be grounds for discipline and/or termination.
• Other duties as assigned or required

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

Education:
Bachelor's degree required Must be accepted into a Walsh University Graduate Program.

Work Experience:

Experience as a high school or college player, coach, or other significant experience relative to the sport of football and/or the administration of an intercollegiate athletics program.

Skills and abilities:

• Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
• First Aid, CPR, AED certification preferred
• Valid Driver's license
• Ability to lead under pressure and in difficult situations
• Ability to think critically and problem solve

• Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
• Must be able to handle and communicate over loud noises in gymnasium/indoors/outdoors; whistles, crowd noise; yelling and screaming.
