Position Summary

This Lab Animal Tech III position is designed for someone interested in participating in the day-to-day operations of the MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) Animal Facility, under general supervision of the Animal Facility Manager.

The MHIR Animal Facility supports research projects from our 19 Principal Investigator-driven research labs. We have world-class scientists working on the most advanced biomedical problems.

The Lab Animal Tech in this position works on a team to help ensure proper care and humane treatment of approximately 7000 mice during their use in our research.

Responsibilities include animal husbandry, procedures, health observations and facility checks.

The MHIR Animal Facility is proudly and fully accredited by the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).

This position is a fully onsite role at our Scarborough, ME research facility.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)Education**: Associate's Degree in an Animal Science program preferred. High school diploma or GED preferred.-
License/Certifications:Active ALAT Certification required.-
Experience: N/A Knowledge of laboratory techniques and terminology, laboratory policies and procedures, and proper handling and care of animals. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and maintain accurate, legible records. Ability to use basic laboratory instruments and animal facility equipment. Interpersonal skills necessary to maintain effective communications. Ability to maintain attention to detail and accuracy despite frequent interruptions. Ability to be exposed to fur bearing animals without adverse effects. Ability to use computers and pertinent software
