Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


  • The Department of Kinesiology is home to about 800 undergraduates who are pursuing a variety of career interests. The Advisor will have an essential role in guiding prospective and current Kinesiology majors through their degree requirements. Close attention to detail is vital to ensure student success and degree progress. Additionally, the advisor will lead orientation efforts for the Department and facilitate all change of major workshops, which requires collaboration with the School of Public Health Advising team as well as the need to successfully work independently. This position reports to the Department Chair.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelors degree required in kinesiology, public health, higher education, student affairs, or a related discipline.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required, as well as experience with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in collaboration, the ability to interact well with both internal and external audiences.
  • Detailoriented and proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and able to create and maintain various databases.
  • Fluent in utilizing social media for educational and nonprofit organizations.

  • Master's degree, Kinesiology background or/and advising experience.
  • Two to three years of advising experience, commitment to promoting diversity, attention to detail, ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in accordance with FERPA, strong written and oral communication skills, a passionate desire to educate and assist students, willingness to collaborate in a team environment, an excellent work ethic, strong interpersonal skills, and strong customer service skills.
