- Primary function of this position is to perform routine and as-needed Trail maintenance including debris removal, trimming tree and brush back, erosion control, repair of bridges/wooden features on trails and other routine trail-maintenance activities.
- Performs maintenance on east campus disc golf and Hydaway disc golf course, duties including weed control, trimming, leaf blowing, small repairs, erosion control and other related activities.
- Maintain the cleanliness of Campus Rec facilities grounds by picking up litter, brush and tree deadfall. Additionally, sweeping patios, walks and steps and emptying trash/recycling barrels.
- Digs trenches and excavates soil for trail maintenance and other tasks using picks and shovels or related equipment. Hauls or spreads soil, gravel, sand, mulch, or related materials using wheelbarrows and rakes.
- Perform all work in accordance with safety rules and procedures, such as OSHA, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while operating Grounds related equipment including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, steel-toed boots, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.
- Operates light-duty vehicles, weed eaters, hedger, rakes, shovels, blowers, sprayers, small hand-held tools and any other equipment associated with trail and outdoor facility maintenance.
- Responsible for proper and safe use and maintenance of all equipment, tools, and chemicals related to the appropriate tasks.
- Attend all required Campus Recreation trainings and meetings.
- Perform all other tasks assigned by the Facilities Coordinator to assist with Campus Recreation operations and programming.
- Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU's mission.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities
- Current Liberty University student eligible for Work Study employment
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
- Ability to work up to 18 hours per week
- Availability to work a variety of different shifts (weekends, early morning, afternoon, late night)
- Leave No Trace training or certification
- Experience or training in Trail Building and Maintenance
- Knowledge of and/or experience in landscaping, horticulture, or related fields
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
- Ability to understand, speak, and write English to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
- Must have basic knowledge of landscape maintenance.
- Must be able to understand and follow instructions, and work under limited supervision.
- Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude.
- Must be able to maintain work areas in a clean and organized fashion.
- Must be flexible regarding work assignments, as they will routinely change.
- Must be able to think logically and solve problems that arise with little guidance.
- Must have basic knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions.
- Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Intuitively able to reason, analyze information and events, and apply judgment in order to solve problems of both a routine and complex nature.
- Occasionally required to travel to local and off campus locations.
- Required to be able stand, walk, and climb stairs to move around campus for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 75+ pounds and perform duties of trail construction and grounds maintenance in typical Virginia climate.
- Must be able to work on weekends, holidays, and flexible daily hours as well as various evening hours.
- Ability to use radio and telephone to communicate and follow written and verbal instructions. Must be able to stand for long periods.
- Must be able to perform physically demanding work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, bending, and standing, walking and driving.
- The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is an outdoor setting and defined by the weather.
- Use of LU-approved UTV's is an essential performance of this position. Proof of a valid Virginia driver's license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

The Campus Rec Student Worker is responsible for performing operational tasks for Campus Recreation programs and facilities. They will provide excellent customer service, maintain facility and asset cleanliness, ensure that all policies are followed by guests and participants, and ensure all safety measures are being implemented.
The Liberty Mountain Facilities Attendant is responsible for trail maintenance, disc golf course maintenance, small facility projects, weed eating, tree/shrub trimming, leaf blowing, equipment maintenance and/or seasonal site cleanup tasks at the various Campus Rec facilities. The primary facilities serviced include the Hydaway Outdoor Center and the Liberty Mountain Trail System, east campus/Hydaway disc golf course. Other facilities include, but are not limited to Liberty Mountain Gun Club, Snowflex Center, Equestrian Center and various athletic fields overseen by Campus Recreation. Tasks may include any other duties or special projects as assigned by the Facilities Coordinator.
