    Description
    The Director of Scientific Administration and Education for the Bertarelli Rare Cancers Fund (BRCF) at Harvard will report directly to the Co-Directors, and coordinate all phases of research, educational, and outreach activities of the Center. They will coordinate basic, translational, and clinical research projects across the funded laboratory and clinical teams at Harvard Medical School and affiliated institutions, as well as with institutions outside of Harvard.

    Duties and responsibilities of the Director shall include, but not be limited to the following:
  • In conjunction with the Co-Directors, develop and implement the Bertarelli Rare Cancers Fund vision, long-range plan, and priorities;
  • Serve as project manager to collaboratively facilitate the research goals of the project groups. This would include but not be limited to acquisition of resources (from both internal and external sources) for the teams, secure appropriate approvals, and oversee coordination of activities between project groups within the Bertarelli Rare Cancers Initiative at Harvard and in collaboration with groups at other institutions;
  • Organize and facilitate meetings for project groups, as well as other research activities associated with the BRCF research mission (e.g., monthly meetings, workshops, retreats, and social activities);
  • Develop and, as appropriate, participate in educational activities for the training of young scientists in the research areas of the BRCF;
  • Liaison with BRCF investigators, communicating timely BRCF news, research opportunities, and ongoing activities and events;
  • Represent the BRCF in meetings organized by the Dean's Office for department administrators, and foster key relationships with the administrative offices of HMS departments and the HMS-affiliated institutions as needed;
  • Coordinate with the Office of Communications and External Relations (OCER) to develop a targeted communications plan to include news and activities of the BRCF to Harvard/HMS, external communities, and key stakeholders. Develop short and long-term strategies that will enhance the visibility and reputation of the Center with all key constituents;
  • Manage the internal and external website for BRCF projects;
  • Requests and manages BRCF progress reports and new project applications from laboratories;
  • Prepares and presents progress reports and writes scientific briefings of each team's work for key stakeholders internal to HMS, external funders, and collaborators, including the preparation of externally facing public symposium presentations and presentations to funding agencies;
  • Prepares and Contributes significantly to study report analyses and writing, tracking the milestones of the BRCF projects, publications, and collaborations, and grant preparation;
  • Supervise individuals contracted or hired to support the activities above.
