    Description

    Summary

    This position is part of the Office of Science - ORNL Site Office, Department of Energy. As a Safety Engineer, you will ensure the safety of employees, the public, and the environment. The employee will oversee implementation of existing environment, safety, and health (ES&H) standards, requirements and guidance and develop new standard-setting elements.

    Duties

    As a Safety Engineer, you will:
  • Oversee all Oak Ridge Site Office (OSO) and contractor 10 CFR 851 and other safety programs.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the fields of safety engineering and engineering design ideas.
  • Stay up to date on current program changes that impact safety.
  • Assess and appraise OSO and contractor programs to ascertain suitability and guarantee adherence to relevant codes, regulations, Departmental Orders, standards, guidelines, and approved Improved Risk practices.
  • Determine and analyze requirements that have an influence on the program for the site office and laboratory, and provide management with advice on the steps that must be taken to fulfill both internal and external needs.
