DIE REPAIR

Position Description

Summary


Analyses all tools being used for each job running on the headers and assists in other production areas as needed.

Assembles individual tool components into units and fabricates and repairs a wide variety of metal working dies in large scale.


Position Responsibilities

  • Determines assembly methods.
  • Setsup and operates machine tools such as lathes, surface grinders and other related equipment.
  • Works from tool prints and instructions received from supervisors and shop floor technicians.
  • Detects and reports discrepancies with the prints and tool components.
  • Keeps all tools needed for each job ready for use at a moments' notice.
  • Maintains spare tools to be used as necessary.
  • Ensures that all tools needed for each setup box are kept together and all damaged or worn out tools are replaced or repaired before the setup box is returned to the tool crib.
  • Collects and reports to tool crib personnel all accurate information pertaining to tool usage on each job for use in the computerized inventory system.
  • Correctly mark all tools, custom or not, when assembling or disassembling dies. All tool markings must correspond to the tool being used or the part # being made.
  • Must keep up with all duties in order to perform at an acceptable level in a consistent manner.
  • Follows all safety rules and practices.
  • Performs other tasks as directed by supervision.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to troubleshoot all tool problems.
  • Ability to work with various precision instruments.
  • Ability to communicate well.
  • Ability to interface well with coworkers.
  • Knowledge of cold heading material flow.
  • Skilled in all areas of tool making.

Education and Experience

  • Over 4 years of experience in steel tools.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience making carbide tools.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Problem solver.
  • Disciplined approach to problem solving with a focus on accuracy.
  • Assertive.
  • Flexible.
