Job Summary:


Combo Clerk play a vital role in store operations in that they are typically the last Employee Owner that our customers engage with.

They also have the very important responsibility of accurate processing of all forms of payment for store merchandise.

Each Combo Clerk is assigned a cash drawer at the beginning of their shift that they will be responsible for reconciling accurately at the completion of their shift.

Assisting with other departments responsibilities is done as needed as well.


Essential Functions of the Position:


  • Friendly and helpful customer service including navigating difficult situations with customers in an effort to diffuse conflict or resolve customer concerns. Utilizing supervisor assistance as needed.
  • Accurately identifying produce items and processing produce codes.
  • Processes all forms of transactions including cash, checks, coupons and all electronic payment tenders including debit, credit, gift cards, EFS, EBT, and WIG.
  • Utilize knowledge of store layout and products to assist customers in inquiries and problem solving.
  • Utilize detailed payment acceptance processes to ensure accuracy and minimize loss to the company and customers.
  • Efficient and accurate processing of all store merchandise at the register including sufficient items scanned per minute to assist in minimizing customers time waiting in line.
  • Accurately prepares and maintains records for cash drops, and cash and coin needed for register throughout the course of their shift.
  • Follows all company policies including accounting for bottom of the basket items.
  • Comply with the State of California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control regulations and Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms regulations including sales of alcohol during appropriate hours, not selling alcohol to an obviously intoxicated person, and properly checking identification to avoid minors purchasing alcohol.
  • Utilizes supervisor assistance to void items or transactions as needed and resolve technical issues at the check stand.
  • Supervises and operates SCO as needed including insuring customer accuracy scanning items and processing payment and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Reconciles assigned till at the end of shift and accurately balances from report for each form of payment and total amount processed for the day.
  • Process customer transactions through the Point of Sale (POS) system accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain knowledge of ongoing promotions and store policies to provide accurate information to customers.
  • Report potentially unsafe conditions and suspicious activities.
  • Validate each denomination of $20 or above for authenticity and informing management of any counterfeit bills.
  • Assists with assigned duties in other departments as needed and delegated by store management.

Knowledge:


  • Knowledge of basic math and cash handling procedures.
  • Familiarity of customer service best practices and strategies for enhancing customer engagement.

  • Excellent verbal communication skills to interact positively with customers and team members.
  • Strong problemsolving skills to handle customer service issues effectively.
  • Proficient in organizing tasks, managing time efficiently, and multitasking in a fastpaced environment.

  • Capability to adjust to changing situations, handle multiple demands, and work with diverse personalities.
  • Aptitude for making informed decisions quickly, often in highpressure situations.

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and moving items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive movements such as reaching, bending, and squatting.
  • Ability to operate and demonstrate use of cashier equipment including POS systems and other necessary technology.
  • Ability to operate POS system including SCO system.
  • Ability to operate 10 key adding machine.
  • Ability to utilize necessary cash handling tools including counterfeit bill detection pens and equipment.

Work Conditions:


  • Standard Work Hours: Vary, weekend, evening and holiday availability, full time hours typically 8 hours a day.
