As the Community Engineering Director for Eureka, IL, you will have a significant impact on the growth and engagement of our community across all engineering teams.

If you are passionate about shaping the future of open source communities, this is the perfect role for you.

Your main responsibility will be to support various teams at Canonical in expanding their community engagement efforts.

You will ensure that community involvement is a key aspect of their work and provide guidance to new and existing contributors.

Additionally, you will facilitate connections between community members and mentors, and coordinate cross-team participation in community events and mentoring programs.


In addition to these duties, you will also work closely with the Ubuntu community team to maintain high-quality and consistent community processes.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Proactively collaborating with multiple distributed teams
  • Assisting engineering teams in setting and achieving community engagement goals
  • Establishing consistency in community processes, engagement, and interactions across engineering teams
  • Influencing others and representing technical insights to customers and fellow engineers
  • Spending a significant amount of time mentoring others and providing crossteam input
  • Working remotely with occasional global travel for internal and external events
  • Collaborating with developer advocates and PR teams at Canonical to promote Ubuntu and related technologies through blogs and social media
  • Identifying relevant influencers and developing effective engagement strategies

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A strong track record of community engagement, particularly within open source communities
  • The ability to represent Canonical/Ubuntu externally
