    About the Positions:
    The Division of Adult Acute Care is the single largest group to admit patients to the general medicine service at UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore Hospitals


    Our General Medicine patient population is comprised of patients of all ages being treated for a wide array of conditions who need compassionate and expert nursing care.


    • 8N - a 17-bed medical-surgical unit. We care for a diverse population of patients including, but not limited to chest pain/rule out MI, COPD, Pneumonia, diabetes/complications of diabetes, cellulitis, sickle cell crisis and other medical conditions. Our nursing team's input is expected daily during multidisciplinary patient rounds with our medical residents, interns, medical students, care management and social worker. 8 North is a fast-paced, demanding environment made successful by our staff's outstanding teamwork and commitment to values such as educating family, providing emotional support, and collaborating with physicians. Given our diverse population of patients, 8 North is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge.
    • 10 E/W - a 30-bed acuity adaptable Adult Acute Care Unit. Our diverse patient population of both step-down and monitored patients can include hepatology, urology, endocrinology, post-surgical complications, pulmonary, infectious disease and many more. This teaching unit is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge. Our partnership with our medical teaching teams include daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds and collaboration with discharge planning.
    • 10S- a 30-bed acuity adaptable medical unit caring for stepdown and telemetry patients. We see a general medical patient population as well as overflow patients from orthopedics, ENT, hepatology, urology, and abdominal transplant. This is a team-driven unit, and we see a diverse population of patients at various levels of acuity, making 10 South a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge.
    • 11S - Our diverse patient population of both step-down and monitored patients can include hepatology, urology, endocrinology, post-surgical complications, pulmonary, infectious disease and many more. This teaching unit is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge. Our partnership with our medical teaching teams include daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds and collaboration with discharge planning.
    • 12N - a 24-bed Medicine telemetry unit caring for a diverse patient population. Our patient care team works with a medical teaching team as well as consulting services such hepatology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, transplant, pulmonary and others. This is a team driven unit caring for a diverse patient population at various levels of acuity making 12 North a perfect fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to build broad knowledge and/or gain experience.
    • 12S - a 30-bed acuity adaptable General Medicine Unit. Our diverse patient population of both step-down and monitored patients can include hepatology, urology, endocrinology, post-surgical complications, pulmonary, infectious disease and many more. This teaching unit is a great fit for graduate nurses and nurses seeking to gain inpatient experience and/or expand their clinical knowledge. Our partnership with our medical teaching teams include daily multidisciplinary bedside rounds and collaboration with discharge planning.
    The Registered Nurse is responsible to set the standards for the level and quality of care.

    They provide patient care activities for a group of patients and their families through the application of independent judgment, communication and collaboration with all team members.

    The nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, other health care providers, patients and their families, to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.

    Our Registered Nurses work rotating shifts including weekends/holidays to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.

    New Graduates will be considered for this position. The final job title and rate of pay will be based upon both individual qualifications and candidate choice. Any required certifications and contributions based on job title will be afforded a timeframe to obtain.

    The minimum rate of pay for a non-BSN Professional Staff Nurse is $28.90.


    We also offer a pay differential to candidates that complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and become a BSN prepared nurse.

    • The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
    • They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
    • Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.
    • Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.
    • Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    • Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse
    • Basic Life Support or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
    • Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
