Context / Scope:


This role is based in Plainfield, IL and is part of the North America Technical Team, an integral function within North America (NA) Supply.

The role of Health & Safety Manager will play a pivotal role in driving the Health & Safety 'Improve' agenda, ensuring the integration of health, safety, and operational excellence into the Supply business DNA.

This leadership position requires a professional with an understanding of occupational health and safety regulations, risk management, and the ability to drive a safety culture throughout the organization.

Collaboration across the market, implementing market and global initiatives, and contributing significantly to Diageo's global safety metrics.

This role will liaise with the Global Governance team to ensure we are consistent with the global standards and policies.


Purpose of Role:

  • Lead North America Supply Health and Safety, consistently contributing to Diageo's global critical metric incident rates through leading Health & Safety Programs.
  • Continuously improve Diageo North America's strategic health and safety plan
  • Collaborate closely with teams across the market to implement the 'Improve' agenda, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Work diligently to integrate health, safety, and operational excellence into the fabric of the Supply business, becoming a custodian of policies, standards, and methods of analysis.
  • Empowered and enabled by the NAM Technical team, take ownership of Health and Safety policies, standards, ways of working, methods of analysis, and critical metrics for the North American region.
  • Translate 'Transform' deliverables and implement them across NA Supply, ensuring execution and adherence to standardized processes.
  • Align annual prioritization and implementation plans, establishing clear prioritization and resource requirements.
  • Deliver codified annual and 5year roadmaps, focusing on 'Improve' initiatives. Support the NA Supply network with 'Run' activities, tasks, and challenges.
  • Collaborate with NA Supply Leadership, Site Directors, and EHS Teams to bring clear roles and responsibilities to H&S engagements and priorities.
  • Develop highquality health and safety systems and solutions and implement them efficiently in a standardized manner.
  • Stay abreast of local, state, and federal safety regulations to ensure compliance and clearly communicate relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Support H&S risk assessments and Internal Assurance Auditing Program across NA Supply.
  • Provide guidance and expertise across incident investigations to support the development of proper root cause and preventative actions.
  • Foster a positive safety culture through effective communication, engagement, and recognition programs.
  • Implement initiatives that encourage employee involvement in identifying and mitigating safety hazards.
  • Measure the effectiveness of health and safety programs against established key performance indicators (critical metrics).
  • Generate regular reports for senior leaders, highlighting trends, areas of improvement, and successes.

Complexity of Role:

  • The role will have direct interactions with the Operations team and the Regional and Global Governance, EHS and ManEx managers.
  • Close collaboration and interaction with the Global Governance team to maintain alignment on programs, documentation, and information sharing.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • 37 years of experience in health and safety management, preferably in the beverage/food industry or with CPG companies.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience in a senior health and safety management role with track record of successful implementation of health and safety programs,
  • Indepth knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to influence and inspire change at all organizational levels.
  • Proficient in risk assessment methodologies and incident investigation techniques.
  • Ability to travel an average of 2030%
