Basic Function and Responsibility:
  • The Work-based Learning Navigator coordinates the college's work-based learning programs (e.g., internships, apprenticeships) and facilitates student opportunities with area employers.
  • The position aims to expand work-based learning opportunities for Oakton students to enhance classroom learning, industry knowledge, and employability skills.
  • The navigator guides students through different program opportunities, supports their career and job search skill development, and consistently works to increase program participation.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Act as the main contact for students interested in work-based learning opportunities. Collaborate with College partners to ensure a positive student experience.
  • Be the first point of contact for business and community inquiries interested in internships, apprenticeships, or work-based learning opportunities.
  • Create and maintain a pipeline of partners to provide work-based learning opportunities for Oakton students.
  • Assist students and employers with paperwork for Oakton's work-based learning programs.
  • Drive initiatives to increase student participation and program size, including developing marketing strategies and conducting workshops for students and area businesses.
  • Maintain records of work-based learning activities and educate students on career development.
  • Collaborate with the Career and Transfer Center, create registered apprenticeship programs, and assist in grant writing.
  • Coordinate internship/apprenticeship evaluations and support program-related budget processes.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or certification in higher education, human resource, business, or related field.
  • Two (2) years of professional work experience.
  • Direct experience working with diverse populations and exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and use a computer to manipulate data.
  • Mobility to move within and outside campus buildings.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Google Workspace and work in educational or corporate recruiting settings.
  • Master's degree is a plus.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a general office environment and is sedentary in nature with little or no exposure to adverse conditions.

Supervision Received:

Functional supervision from the Workforce Compliance and Career Initiatives Manager and administrative supervision from the Director of Grant Strategy and Development.

HOURS:

Monday - Friday 8:15 am - 5:00 pm

SALARY:

$50,346

Based on the needs of the college and with Administrator approval, some positions at the college may have remote or hybrid schedule options available after 30 working days.
