Position Description - Peer Recovery Specialist

Qualifications:

High school degree or related equivalent. Must have at least three years of successful recovery. Knowledge of Lake County recovery community and Lake County resources is required.


Skills

  • Able to serve as a role model, mentor, advocate and motivator to recovery individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long term recovery
  • Strong interpersonal skills ability to communicate with clients, their significant others, criminal justice, and social services professionals
  • Knowledge and understanding of cooccurring disorders
  • Familiarity with Lake County service providers.
  • Gender and cultural competence with diverse populations
  • Flexible
  • Ability to multitask and crisis manage

Position Responsibilities:


  • Outreach to and engage members of the recovery community including former and present program participants
  • Engage individuals in their recovery process, by providing case management services
  • Be an advocate for the needs of the client
  • Facilitate frequent meetings of past and current program participants
  • Maintain excellent communications with all referral sources
  • Gather data for evaluation purposes
  • Assure appropriate program linkages with community referral sources
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to ensure the program participants receive the services they need
  • Educate professional staff about the recovery process from the client perspective
  • Assist client in choosing, obtaining and keeping recovery goals
  • Assist in clinical and support services as needed
  • Other duties as may be required
