Job description

Position:

The Program Coordinator (PC) is the cornerstone of our mentoring relationships. Leveraging clinical and human services education, the Elements of Effective Practice for Mentoring, and Silver Lining Mentoring's policies and procedures, you will help cultivate long-term mentor/mentee relationships for youth in foster care.

We are currently hiring for two separate tracks within this role. While both positions share a core focus on caseload management and trauma-informed support, they differ in their secondary focus:

  • (Track 1) Enrollment & Matching: Focused on SLM's efforts related to youth and mentor enrollment by interviewing and training new volunteer mentor candidates in preparation for long-term mentorship and preliminarily identifying mentee/mentor matches. This PC will work closely with our enrollment teams and will have a passion for volunteer engagement and adult-learning.
  • (Track 2) Learn & Earn Facilitator: Focused on delivering high-quality workshops that foster a positive and engaging learning environment focused on the development of essential life skills for youth transitioning out of foster care. This PC will build strong, supportive relationships with youth participants, volunteer mentors, and site partner staff and will be excited to work directly with young people in group-based settings.

Both positions report to a Program Manager and collaborate closely with members of the regional programming team.

Core Responsibilities (shared by both roles) - (65%)

Mentoring Match and Youth Support

  • Caseload Management: Provide clinically-informed guidance to a caseload of mentee-mentor matches, ensuring program quality and relationship longevity.
  • Volunteer Development: Maintain consistent contact with mentors to build their skills and help them navigate the unique needs of their mentees.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Proactively communicate with social workers, caregivers, clinicians, and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
  • Resource Brokering: Act as a trauma-informed resource bridge for youth and mentors needing additional support services.
  • Safety: Mediate relationship challenges, manage safety concerns according to SLM policies.
  • Data Entry: Maintain meticulous data entry in our Salesforce CRM database & support evaluation efforts.
  • Community Engagement: Support programming and organization-wide events, including mentoring group activities and the annual Match Gala.
  • Continuous Quality Improvement: Collaborate within and beyond the regional programming team to identify trends and best practices to continue meeting mentee and mentors needs.

Specialized Responsibilities (role-specific) - (35%)

(Track 1) Enrollment & Matching Focus

  • Mentor Recruitment, Screening and Training (25%): Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Management & Program teams to recruit mentors whose identities reflect those of the young people we serve. Ensure program quality related to the screening of volunteer mentor candidates, co-facilitate mentor training, and conduct weekly mentor candidate interviews.
  • Mentee & Mentor Matching (10%): Review application materials to identify potential matches; lead the efforts to pair waitlisted youth with the right volunteer mentors. Work collaboratively with Program teams to orient new and waitlisted mentees to SLM.

(Track 2) Learn & Earn Facilitator Focus

  • Life Skills Program Delivery & Admin (25%): Deliver the "Learn & Earn" curriculum in group-based settings (typically in a youth's residential placement), liaise with partner staff to lead life skills workshops, and manage all workshop logistics including: cohort enrollment, scheduling guest speakers, and coordinating financial compensation for youth participants.
  • Mentor Recruitment, Screening and Training (10%): Work collaboratively with the Volunteer Management & Program teams to recruit mentors whose identities reflect those of the young people we serve. Ensure program quality related to the screening of volunteer mentor candidates, co-facilitate mentor training, and conduct mentor candidate interviews.
  • Travel Requirement: This track requires a valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel to workshops and evening/weekend events.

Who You Are & What You're Good At:

Our ideal candidate will be a values-led, adaptable individual interested in supporting youth impacted by foster care. Data shows that BIPOC and women often rule themselves out from job opportunities when they don't feel they fit 100% of the criteria listed in a job description. If that sounds like you, don't rule yourself out

  • You're mission driven. You demonstrate a deep commitment to and belief in the mission, vision and values of Silver Lining Mentoring.
  • You're clinically-focused. You have a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW), a comparable degree, OR work experience that demonstrates skill in providing youth-focused, trauma-informed, harm reduction, and strengths-based support. LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, or comparable human services licensure a plus. Experience working with youth with out-of-home experience, young people of color, and/or youth who identify as LGBTQ and/or TGNC preferred.
  • You're a skilled facilitator & communicator. You have experience creating and delivering presentations and feel comfortable facilitating meetings. You have strong interpersonal skills that allow you to effectively engage audiences. It's a plus if you're bilingual or fluent in Spanish.
  • People can trust you. You have a proven record of reliability when managing multiple responsibilities and collaborating with multiple stakeholders. You have strong emotional intelligence and can build trusting relationships. You have a high level of self-awareness, accountability, and adaptability.
  • You're on top of your stuff. You know how to manage projects and can maintain a large plate of varied tasks to support mentor-mentee matches – including ample email/text correspondence and communications through Google Suite. You complete tasks within expected time-frames and communicate with partners throughout your work. You demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills. You are very organized
  • You leverage systems for good. You can use existing resources and locate new-to-SLM resources to further our work. You can manage a library of material and maintain consistent documentation. Familiarity with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, SalesForce, and Box software preferred.
  • You show up fearlessly. You're earnest, passionate, and open to learning from mistakes. You are strongly encouraged to apply if you are a person of the global majority (PGM)/black and/or indigenous person of color (BIPOC) and/or if you have lived foster care experience.
  • You're an awesome teammate. You work well with others, can be counted on to work independently, receive and incorporate feedback, provide quality feedback, and are always ready to complete supportive tasks to further the organization's mission. You are flexible in our ever-evolving environment.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is preferred for track 1, and required for track 2.
  • Please note that at this time Silver Lining Mentoring is not able to sponsor U.S. work authorization for this role.
