The Primary Counselor provides clinical care and treatment to _Experience Recovery Detox & Residential _clients.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Counsel clients individually and in group sessions.
  • Complete and maintain accurate records and reports regarding client histories and progress, services provided, and other required information.
  • Develop client treatment plans based on research, clinical experience and client histories.
  • Review and evaluate client progress in relation to measurable goals described in treatment plans.
  • Interview clients, review records, and confer with other professionals to evaluate clients' mental and physical conditions, and to determine their suitability for participation in a specific program.
  • Intervene as an advocate for clients to resolve crisis situations.
  • Provide clients and family members with information about addiction and available services and programs, making appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Modify treatment plans to comply with changes in client status.
  • Coordinate counseling efforts with mental health professionals and other health professionals such as doctors, nurses, and social workers.
  • Attend training sessions and inservices to increase knowledge and skills.
  • Plan and implement followup and aftercare programs for discharging clients
  • Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, and supporting clients.
  • Participate in case conferences and staff meetings.
Act as a liaison between clients and medical staff.

  • Coordinate activities with courts, probation officers, community services and other postdischarge agencies.
  • Confer with client family members and loved ones to keep them informed of treatment planning and progress.
  • Instruct others in program methods, procedures, and functions.
  • Follow progress of discharged clients.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate public education, prevention, and health promotion programs, working in collaboration with organizations, institutions and communities.
  • Direct other workers providing services to clients.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be wellversed in counseling protocols and techniques, have excellent clinical skills and maintain professionalism in dress, speech and actions.
  • Must have good problemsolving skills, work well with others and be a team member.
  • Must have expertise in communicating with highly developed written and verbal skills.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend professional manuals.
  • Be able to enforce policies and procedures in a fair and firm manner.
  • Must be able to write legible, concise notes.
  • Must have a working knowledge of twelvestep programs and principles.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and give and follow simple instructions.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of adapting to the various groups.
  • Ability to adhere to safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to use good judgment and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication.
  • Ability to accept direction and adhere to policies and procedures.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Primarily works inside. Light physical work, sitting, writing, walking, bending, climbing and descending stairs. Must possess physical conditioning adequate for performance of the work. Reasonable accommodations will be made to persons with disabilities upon request.

Qualifications:
A minimum of two years' experience in the assessment and/or treatment of substance abuse _and_ CADC-I or CADC-II.
