HR Manager

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages recruiting process including posting, sourcing, phone screening, interview coordination, and negotiating offers.
  • Works with department leadership to create job requirements and job postings for new hires across all companies, including operational, administrative and tractor trailer drivers. Reviews and updates existing job descriptions as job roles evolve.
  • Leads employee onboarding efforts, includes generating offer letters, coordinating with IT staff and payroll admin to setup new hires on systems, and conducting orientations.
  • Hears and resolves employee grievances; offers guidance to employees and supervisors.
  • Conducts investigations when complaints are brought to Human Resources and provide guidance on employee relations issues.
  • Counsels and disciplines employees as needed.
  • Works directly with department managers to coach/counsel employee matters; assists with creating written disciplinary documents.
  • Conducts and oversees exit interviews.
  • Enforces management guidelines per the Employee Handbook.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations to management for policies/procedures for Bettaway Employee Handbook; recommends new human resource policies or amends current procedures within handbook.
  • Ensures legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements.
  • Retains human resource records and company contracts by filing and organizing current or past records.
  • Supports the Payroll & Benefits Administrator assisting with benefits, employee administrative leaves and other employee related tasks.
  • Responsible for submitting employee changes to payroll for processing.
  • Works with leadership to devise and document a formalized training program for each department.
  • Attends Rutgers University and other local job fairs for intern and employee recruitment (23x per year).
  • Maintains and renews annual certificates, permits, licenses and trademarks for all entities to remain in compliance; includes but not limited to NJ Department of Health, fire inspections, beer permits, NJ Federal Labor, etc.
  • Responds to and coordinates certificate of insurance (COI) requests via insurance brokers.
  • Manages daytoday office needs.
  • Travel to other local sites weekly
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of proven working experience as an HR Manager in a fast moving, highgrowth logistic company preferred.
  • Working knowledge of logistics, warehousing, fleet services a plus.
  • People oriented and results driven.
  • Leadership skills.
  • Excellent active listening, negotiation and presentation skills.
  • Competence to build and effectively manage interpersonal relationships at all levels of the company
  • Ability to drive employee engagement.
  • Indepth knowledge of employment labor laws & sexual harassment law
  • Knowledge of administrative leave programs & applicable laws (FMLA, DI, Medical Non-FMLA).
  • Knowledge of benefits administration.
