Position Summary/Purpose of Position:


  • The Department of Residential Facilities is looking for a creative and inspired architect to design and manage projects that push boundaries, usher in change and evoke user senses. The department is looking at how to better inspire students and staff through the built environment. The architect will handle projects from initial client briefings through to the final stages of construction. The architect's responsibilities include managing client relationships, developing and presenting design proposals, preparing drawings, specifications, budgets, construction documents, and managing construction project teams when necessary. The position will allow for ownership of projects, be it the design and construction of a new building, an extension, alterations or a restoration project.


The Architect position provides architectural design and related technical support to capital and other building and space renovation projects for the campus' residence hall, fraternity/sorority, recreational facilities, and other Student Affairs projects as requested.


  • Research, programs, plans, designs, and administers building projects for clients, and applies knowledge of architectural design, construction detailing, construction procedures, zoning, building codes, and building materials and systems.
  • Produce conceptual plans, renderings, and documents.
  • Plan and programs layout of project(s); coordinates and integrates engineering elements into unified designs for client review and approval.
  • Utilize computerassisted design software and equipment to prepare project designs and plans.
  • Interface and works in tandem with DRF Planning & Design, and Project & Construction unit members.

Minimum Qualifications:


Education:


  • Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture from an accredited institution.

Experience:


  • Registered and licensed in Maryland Architect with 10+ years of architectural experience with projects of comparable type, size, and complexity.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop.
  • Analytical, and solid organization & problemsolving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication including strong working experience with Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to independently perform inspections and surveys to evaluate existing conditions, define project priorities and determine corrective strategies.
  • A thorough knowledge of commercial/institutional building materials, equipment, finishes, building systems, codes, zoning regulations, and site requirements.
  • Knowledge of, and coordination of engineering disciplines & elements into design solutions. Review and evaluate drawing specifications (Mech, Elec, Arch, etc.) and other contract documents; Plan and coordinate multiple and various projects/tasks involving multiple customers and tight deadlines; Analyze and interpret engineering reports and complex technical problems.

  • Working knowledge and use of Revit preferred
  • LEED AP is preferred
  • Experience with design of new construction, building restoration, interior fitouts, building systems, retrofit, and maintenance projects desirable.

Additional Certifications:


  • Valid Driver's license with less than 6 points required.

Additional Information:


  • Salary Range: $92,040$115,050.
