Under general supervision, the purpose of the position is to assist the Inmate Services Supervisor in the performance of administrative, supervisory, and professional work related to the implementation and management of an Inmate Services unit according to established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements applicable to the work.

Employees in this classification perform in an entry management level capacity to supervise assigned functions according to established schedules and programs of the Inmate Services Division.

This position acts as the supervisor in the absence of the Inmate Services Supervisor.

Position assists in the oversight of the use of specialized division software and communications with other legal departments, agencies, and personnel, e.g., Corrections, Probation, Pretrial Release, various Law Enforcement Offices, Clerk of the Court and the Public Defender's Office.

This position assists the Inmate Services Supervisor in planning, implementing, and organizing all aspects of the assigned unit while also ensuring compliance with state statute and administrative order, as applicable.


Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists the Inmate Services and/or Community Corrections Supervisor in planning, organizing, and implementing division record goals and objectives; coordinates and integrates all activities toward achievement of established goals and objectives.
  • Assists with the training and coordinating of staff functions according to established procedures and departmental guidelines. Completes DOR (Daily Observation Report) paperwork in all areas. Assists in maintaining bimonthly refresher training for all staff on essential functions.
  • Assists with supervising schedules, evaluating staff, administers discipline, as appropriate. Assists other Assistant Supervisors, as needed, to ensure proper supervisory coverage.
  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with all laws, rules, and regulatory standards governing the operations of the facility and programs. Ensures all functions under charge are in accordance with Federal and State rules, Administrative Orders, Florida Model Jail Standards, FCAC, and ACA.
  • Performs a wide variety of complex administrative functions as it relates to inmate processing and programs; enters and updates court information into the Jail Management system; reviews, verifies, and authorizes all types of inmate releases, as applicable; compiles, analyzes and evaluates statistical data, inmate demographics, answers inmate grievances and requests, reports processing, and documentation review and approval. Oversees and performs a variety of critical record keeping duties; supervises the maintenance of departmental records and filing systems appropriate to the unit. Acts as the liaison between the assigned unit and Accreditation team.
  • Maintains open communication with Judiciary, Pre-Trial Release, Probation, Sheriff's Office, Clerk of the Court, and Public Defenders Office for the dissemination of information. Assists public via telephone, answering questions regarding releases and general questions. Notifies victims of inmate release through telephone call or coordinates Law Enforcement visit.
  • Manages and maintains department equipment and general office supplies; submits requests for repairs and replacements as needed.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and trainings to keep up with court related issues, legislative changes, etc.
  • Performs duties as assigned/necessary which are related, or logical in assignment to the position.

MAY BE ASSIGNED TO OVERSEE AND/OR ASSIST IN THE FOLLOWING SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:


BONDS AND DOCKETS:


  • Supervises a variety of critical teletypes through FCIC/NCIC to other agencies local and State, personally handling difficult cases.
  • Oversees Court document preparation for first appearance.
  • Answers correspondence from former inmates.
  • Supervises Bonds & Dockets Specialists functions according to established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements applicable to the work, e.g., arrest affidavits, booking reports, court documents and inmate files.

CLASSIFICATION:
