    JOB SUMMARY:
    Under the supervision of the Director of Surgical Services and/or Clinical Manager the Registered Nurse is responsible for organizing. planning, directing, coordinating, providing high quality, and individualized patient care. The nurse will demonstrate organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills. The nurse will demonstrate proficient performance standards in performing their daily work duties to meet the department expectations. The nurse works effectively and productively with shared responsibilities. The nurse will provide physical psychological and spiritual needs to the individual patient. Continuously seeks ways to improve processes and meet customer satisfaction with patients and physicians.

    The RN provides services to the following population:
    infant (31 days to 12 months).

    child (1 year to 12 years), adolescents (13 years to 17 years), adult (ages 18 to 64 years), and older adults (ages 65 years and above).

    Demonstrates a sound knowledge and is proficient in specialty procedures. Able to set up, run, and care for all operating room equipment

    Assists in the implementation of the anesthesia management during the peri-operative period A) Assist the anesthesiologist during

    intubation and extubation, able to assist during difficult intubations.

    Demonstrates use of central patient monitoring system - including but not limited to EKG, non-invasive BP, Pulse Ox.

    Knowledge of and able to care for the patient receiving epidural injection, moderate sedation, regional blocks and spinal anesthesia. Safe transfer/transport of patients.

    Collects, interprets, and records nursing data in order to meet patient needs. Utilizes data to develop a nursing care plan during intraoperative phase of care.

    Performs all circulating duties with efficiency and speed. Recognizes symptoms of cardiac and respiratory distress and initiates the

    necessary action.

    Demonstrates compliance and understanding of changes in healthcare regulations, the healthcare workforce and professional standards. Performance/Process Improvement

    Can verbalize knowledge of hospital-wide performance/process improvement.

    Offers suggestions for departmental and/or hospital-wide performance/process improvement.

    Follows hospital policies and procedures for Moderate Sedation, Time-out, Invasive Lines, Arterial Lines, ICP monitors.

    Establishes priorities and plan of care as determined by the initial physician and psychosocial assessment. Identifies nursing diagnosis, initiates interventions, evaluates and documents outcomes. Uses ongoing assessment to re-evaluate and prioritize patient and family needs. 17.

    Functions as a patient advocate, initiating action to improve healthcare, promoting the patient needs if medical, family or caregiver situations are against the wished or interests of the patient, and giving the patient the opportunity to make informed decisions about healthcare before it is provided.

    Provides a safe and therapeutic environment.

    Follows all regulatory guidelines for maintaining patient privacy [HIPAA]

    Assesses the need for and provides pain relief measures for the patient as necessary.

    Follows through on indicators for Core measures [SCIP]

    Able to act as a resource for technicians and temporary agent nurses

    Attends at least 50% of team meetings and in-services. Reads and initials the monthly team meeting minutes and any communication

    CONFIDENTIALITY - Sensitive information including, but not limited to, patient records, charts, hospital documents and employee information is kept confidential without exception.

    Verifies patient information is provided to appropriate party, i.e. patient discharge information, fax to doctor's office, etc.

    ANNUAL REQUIREMENTS - Completes annual requirements (PPD, health requirements, Annual Update, Ethics training. licensure and/or professional certification) on time.


    • IV. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

    MANDATORY:

    • Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California
    • BLS and ACLS certification
    • 6 months experience as a peri-operative nurse and complete peri-op course
    • Able to circulate all cases
    * basic computer skills

    • Completion of basic dysrhythmia course

    PREFERRED:

    • CNOR certification
    • Member in professional organization'
    • Scrub experience

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    Able to withstand long periods of standing, walking, stooping, bending and sitting.

    Able to lift and move patients, heavy equipment, instrument trays and push/pull gurneys and beds using proper body mechanics. Must have manual dexterity, good eye-hand coordination and adequate visual and auditory acuity to perform duties.
