- Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Scientist III for the Radiation Cancer Biology division of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The primary role of the Research Scientist III (RS III) under direction of the Principal Investigator (or designee) assists with the design and conduct of research studies on cancers, according to set protocols.
Incumbent is expected to assist in to design, coordinate and conduct research studies/projects that involve identification and characterization of the mechanistic roles of cell surface receptors to generate novel targeted pharmacology to treat human diseases such as cancer through highly specialized and technical research projects in cellular and molecular biology, and animal models of human cancers.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:- Implements and performs various specialized research and clinical operations relative to ongoing investigatory activities in accordance with set protocols.
- Participates in the coordination of the analytical, biochemical, physiology and instrumentation functions with the clinical and research areas and in the development of performance standards, selection of methodology and instrumentation to ensure conformance with the goals and objectives of the lab.
- Under supervision, assists in the conducting of continuous program of research and development regarding the analytical and instrumentation functions of the laboratory, participates in the evaluation of the existing procedures, suggesting revision where necessary and proposing new procedures where required.
- Reviews and analyzes scientific data, scientific reports, publications and other documents pertaining to current research developments. Functions as scientific consultant in areas pertaining to specific expertise.
- As requested, assists in the implementation of the programs and projects in special areas of interest to the lab/department.
- Assist with the instruction and training of residents, fellows, medical students, research assistants and laboratory technicians in laboratory technique, physiological procedures and instrumentation to develop the skill necessary to perform the required functions, as needed.
- Assists in the development of budget proposals for the laboratory area, with specific projections regarding future equipment and manpower needs, as needed.
- Assist in organizing, leading and conducting highly specialized research activity for a particular research project.

Minimum Education and Experience - Master's Degree in a relevant science.
- Two (2) years of related research experience.
- A Doctorate in a relevant science may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above.

- Effective oral and written communication skills are required.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is also essential.
