Position Summary:

The
Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting pharmacological services for the dispensary by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications. Provides support for the office independently and with mínimal supervision. Performs other diverse duties as requested or required under the general and direct supervision of the manager.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Manage payor prior authorizations.
  • Work with both the patient and foundation funding team to ensure access to medications as needed.
  • To create a positive and professional first impression for the practice and to show the patients a we care attitude.
  • Receive written prescription or refill requests and verify that information is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  • Answer telephones, responding to questions or requests.
  • Retrieves, pours, counts, labels, and reconstitutes prescription medications.
  • Price and file prescriptions that have been filled.
  • Order, label, and count stock of medications, chemicals, and supplies, and enter inventory data into computer.
  • Clean and help maintain equipment and work areas and sterilize glassware according to prescribed methods.
  • Establish and maintain patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients as well as patient allergies.
  • Prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and records.
  • Transfer medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes using aseptic techniques.
  • Maintains logs for registering, return to stock, credits, HIPAA, no safety caps waivers, vouchers/grants, inventory, and special assignments.
  • Receive payments for prescriptions dispensed and log payments accurately into system.

Qualifications:


  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
  • All states except Arizona: Applicants must complete a pharmacy technician training program that the State Board of Pharmacy approves in the state you are in or accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
  • Arizona Only: Register with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician trainee and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) or become nationally certified through the PTCB and register with the State Board as a pharmacy technician.

  • Proficient with enterprise pharmaceutical dispensing software.
  • Proficient knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient math skills.
  • Proficient computer software and database skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fastpaced environment.
  • Knowledgeable in state and federal pharmacy law.
  • Ability to type 40 WPM.

  • Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region.

Physical Requirements for the Job:


  • Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.
  • Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eyehand coordination.
  • Frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds.
