    Summary

    The Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs and Career Development plays a crucial role in in the appointment, on boarding, career development, and promotion of faculty in our Medical School, School of Health Professions, and the Peter O'Donnell Jr.

    School of Public Health.
    Experience and Education

    Medical degree (MD or equivalent) and a strong background in faculty recruitment, development, and administration in a medical school setting.

    Experience with the development, management, and monitoring of faculty compensation and incentive plans of UT Southwestern Medical Center.
    Knowledge of medical education and graduate medical education accreditation standards and criteria for medical and surgical subspecialty certification.
    Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    Commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and excellence in medical education.
    Job Duties

    Faculty Appointment:


    Collaborate with Chairs of Clinical Departments and Clinical Programs in identifying, recruiting, and appointing faculty of the highest quality who are qualified to educate and mentor student, resident and fellow trainees and provide excellent clinical care to patients who seek clinical care at UT Southwestern Medical Center.

    Review all new physician and health care provider faculty appointments to verify their qualifications for proposed clinical and educational responsibilities.

    Work with the Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Career Development to assure that all letters of intent for faculty who are proposed as members of the medical group practice outline clinical, educational and research responsibilities appropriate for their proposed academic track and comply with institutional standards of fair and equitable compensation.

    Oversee the processes for Adjunct Faculty appointment and serve as an Ex Officio member of the committee reviewing proposed Adjunct Faculty promotions or initial appointments to the ranks for Adjunct Associate Professor or Adjunct Professor.


    Faculty Career Development:


    Provide guidance and support for faculty engaged in clinical care and medical education through oversight of focused fourth year reviews of clinical educator and clinician faculty and participation in seminars educating faculty on criteria for academic promotion.

    Collaborate with the Vice Provost and Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and Career Development and the Associate Dean for Faculty Development in implementing faculty development programs to enhance clinical teaching skills and development of clinical care and research programs of the highest quality.

    Oversight of Medical Group faculty compensation and incentive plans:

    Collaborate with chairs of clinical departments to develop equitable faculty compensation and incentive plans that reward high quality, efficient and productive clinical practices.

    Serve as the Representative of the Medical School Dean on the Faculty Compensation Advisory Committee of the Medical Services, Research and Development Plan (MSRDP) Faculty Practice Plan of UT Southwestern Medical Center.

    Advise the Provost and Dean regarding proposed changes to Medical Group faculty compensation.
    Performs other duties as assigned.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    Work requires excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
    Work requires telephone and personal contact with all levels of internal and external personnel and organizations.
    Work requires excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to coordinate people and resources to accomplish goals.
    Work requires responsibility for review, development, recommendation, and implementation of plans and policies.
    Working Conditions
    Work is performed primarily in general office environment.

    Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents in lieu of stated minimums require prior approval of Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer or his/her designee.
