Stew Leonard's, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has seven stores in Norwalk, Danbury, and Newington, CT, Farmingdale, East Meadow & Yonkers, NY, and Paramus NJ.

Stew's earned its nickname, the "Disneyland of Dairy Stores" because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop.

Quality Control Specialist

On-site designated foods store, with travel to all locations for inspections

Job Summary:

The Quality Control Specialist executes all activities related to maintaining a clean and safe environment. Following proper protocol in ensuring the safety and sanitation of each store production areas, warehouse, and equipment. Provides guidance to the Team on the necessary maintenance regarding all equipment and inspection findings. Collaborating with the Director of Quality Control in completing a variety of tasks to ensure a sanitary environment.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Understanding the importance of health inspections, regulations, and SOP's for food service
  • Safely conducts health inspections in all Stew Leonard's Store Locations
  • Works with Federal, State, Local and Store In-House health inspections in the documentation and follow up with the respective store/department
  • Conducts warehouse and cooler code dates to ensure the quality of products
  • Overnight swab tests and Inhouse inspections, reports to respective stores the findings
  • Other assigned job duties

Education and Experience (include knowledge, skills, and abilities):

  • Minimum of Associates degree in Biology, Microbiology, and/or Environmental Sciences
  • Experience with food processing, collecting product, and environmental samples
  • Servsafe Certified, or equivalent certification, not required but a plus
  • Good computer skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and oral
  • The ability to give clear directions

Working Conditions:


  • Flexible working schedule primarily M-F 7:30 am 4 pm OR 8 am 4:30 pm with the ability to work overnight shifts for quality testing (est. 30 shift/annually)
  • The position requires frequent walking, standing, lifting pulling, and pushing with a range of 5075 pounds
  • Able to work in various temperatures due to highly perishable food items
  • Must be willing to travel to all Stew Leonard's Store locations
  • CT, NY, and NJ food stores
o. Company vans are provided for travel, if not available you'd be eligible for mileage reimbursement
Estimated salary $62,248 to $84,823 depending on qualifications and experience.
