Job Summary


Purdue University is looking for a person who is customer service focused, including recognition that it should be value-added, to become a Collections Assistant.

As a Collections Assistant, you will be Responsible for the collection and recovery of delinquent University accounts receivable including tuition, housing, student loans, and miscellaneous charges.

Implement collection methods and strategies including skiptracing, establishing contact with debtors, negotiating payment plans, and providing effective financial counseling. Analyze student financial aid transactions and accounts receivable to support the collection of past-due student balances. Analyze and interpret collection problems according to the student loan servicer, collection agencies, and Department of Education procedures. Ensure that student loan borrowers receive entitlements contained in various loan programs. Determine eligibility for, and approve various deferment entitlements associated with Perkins, Health Profession, and Purdue student loan programs. Work closely with various University departments to coordinate collection efforts from external non-student and student customers. Reconcile various account activities including customer accounts, collection agency statements, and accounts referred to outside agencies.


Required:


  • High school diploma or GED
  • Four years of work experience in collections, business office, accounts payable, accounting, or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of educational software such as SAP, Banner, and student loan systems
  • Must have an aptitude for math and a desire to work with numbers
  • Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations related to customer collection conflicts
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems, file management and records, forms, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and timely communicate, verbally and in writing, with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment to achieve common goals in a cooperative manner
  • Ability to provide directions and information, including important events, decisions, and changes, and answer questions accurately, professionally, tactfully, and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, balancing workload and developing plans to effectively complete assignments

Preferred:


  • BA/BS in a related field
  • Working knowledge of federal loan programs' policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of credit and collection procedures a plus
  • Knowledge of SAP
