Purpose Statement:

The purpose of this position is to provide guidance and support to Middle School students seeking assistance with school, personal, social, and family problems that affect spiritual growth, classroom behavior, and academic progress.

Services provided include class schedules, individual counseling, small group counseling, and crisis intervention.

The specific focus of this role is to help students develop academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually in a manner that will enable them to be good disciples and stewards of the abilities and strengths God has given them.

Scope:

This person interacts directly with Middle School students, and with parents, staff, and administrators on behalf of students. This person assists students in various stages of development, learning, and academic planning. Youth discipleship and the handling of confidential student concerns are critical parts of this position.

The counselor will be proactive as a liaison between parents, faculty, and administration in support of students assigned to them.

The person who holds this position must be ordained, commissioned, or licensed as a Minister of the Gospel.

The Middle School Counselor is a Minister of the Gospel in accordance with the requirements for licensure in Calvary Chapel's Ecclesiastical Practices Manual.

As a Minister, this role plays an important part in furthering the religious mission of Calvary Chapel.

Responsibilities:

Manages the creation of students' schedules and schedule changes
Provides educational/personal/social/spiritual counseling.
Proactive counseling includes assistance in the following areas: academic planning, reviewing academic progress, family issues, peer relationships, college planning, and career interests.
Determines academic intervention for students and communicates to parents and teachers
Meets with each student on academic intervention 2 times per quarter and communicates results with parents
Tracks "Helps" Class attendance for academic intervention students Accept referrals from Administration as requested
Refers students with consistent academic issues to the Principal and/or ESE Director as needed
Prepares Academic Contract for Continuing Enrollment.
Occasional referrals to CCFL ministries and community agencies to provide services to students and their families.
Provides consultation with teachers, administrators, and parents on behalf of assigned students as appropriate.
Communicates with parents concerning crisis student situations
Provides resources for crisis intervention services as needed.
Orients new students and incoming 6th graders to provide a comfortable and successful introduction to CCA.
Coordinates MS Standardized Testing
Communicates spiritual, academic, and social concerns to the principal and administration team
Coordinates the Spilling the Tea 5thgrade parent meeting with the discipleship team and participates as a speaker
Assists MS Team with all events and activities
Academic Probation Coordinator
NJHS Advisor
Event coordination includes but is not limited to NJHS Indiction Ceremony, Duke Tip, Math League Competition, Math Placement, 5th Grade Parent Meetings
Too Good for Drugs program speaker on Emotional Health
