Description

The Middle School Innovation Support Specialist (MSISS) is a highly motivated, passionate, and creative educator who is a leader in educational technology. The MSISS will drive the integration of necessary technology skills into all aspects of education through curriculum design, collaboration, coaching, and co-teaching with faculty. The MSISS also provides classroom support to faculty and students for academic technology and innovation. The position includes troubleshooting, and enhancing teacher and student knowledge in utilization of existing technology. Working collaboratively with the Director of Technology and Innovation, the MSISS helps teachers explore technology and innovative solutions to enhance the learning experiences of students in the Middle School. The person in this position "speaks teacher" and intimately understands the needs and demands of teachers and instructional technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Initiate, implement, and oversee day-to-day technology integration for students in grades 5-8
-
Promote technology and instructional design that supports excellent teaching and learning
-
Provide coaching, mentorship, and modeling of current instructional strategies for teachers as they are implementing new technologies

Provide ongoing training and support on academic school systems such as Schoology, Google Workspace, etc. to faculty, staff, students, and parents
-
In collaboration with the registrar, roster educational technology programs using Clever
-
Provide tier 1 tech support to students and faculty, and front-line support for in-classroom technology
-
Develop the middle school robotics program
-
In collaboration with the library team, coordinate digital citizenship and media literacy curriculum for students, faculty, and parents
-
Co-administrate Common Sense Media Connected Schools program
-
Organize, develop, and coordinate educational technology events and activities

In collaboration with the Director of Technology and Innovation, design, coordinate, and deliver technology and innovation-related faculty professional development

Administrate the 5-8 digital portfolio program
-
Engage in continuous professional development in design, innovation, and technology integration

In collaboration with the Technology Support Specialist, facilitate the school's MDM (Mobile Device Management) system to plan, prepare, and deploy all enrolled devices (MacOS, iPadOS, tvOS)

Facilitate the management of Apple Classroom, Jamf Parent, and Jamf Safe Internet
-
Lead meetings to support the integration of technology-related skills in the core curriculum

Initiate new programs that support the mission of the school

Share and promote events through social media
-
Perform other duties as assigned

SKILLS and COMPETENCIES

Proficiency in supporting various technology platforms (PC, Mac, iPad, mobile, etc.)

General knowledge of computer hardware and software maintenance and support

Strong troubleshooting skills to solve technical problems

A growth mindset and willingness to stay fresh and innovative

Ability to work collaboratively and with a team

Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-
Bachelor's degree in education, Master's degree in computer science, educational technology, or similar field
-
"Teacher first" with a minimum of three years of experience in the classroom, ideally in an independent school.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to see in the normal visual range with or without correction, read printed materials and tell the difference among colors. The employee must be able to push or pull up to 50 pounds. Prolonged sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Frequent bending, reaching, squatting/kneeling, twisting.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
**While performing the duties of this job the employee works in an environment where the noise level is usually moderate and constant distractions due to constant foot traffic, phones ringing and people talking.
