The
_Code Enforcement/Health Officer_
earns a competitive hourly salary of $20.58-$22.27/hour,
based on qualifications.

Additionally, the city pays all premiums

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A CODE ENFORCEMENT/HEALTH OFFICER

_ This role will primarily emphasize responsibilities related to health enforcement and regulation._

_ Job Summary_


The purpose of this class within the organization is to ensure the safety and health of the citizens of Pearland by vigilantly enforcing the standards established by the ordinances approved by the City Council in regard to dangerous buildings, excessively high grass and weeds, accumulation of trash and debris, illegal dumping, and other general nuisance related violations.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.


_ Essential Functions_

  • Ensures the safety and health of the citizens through regular visits to Pearland businesses and residential locations and responding to complaints filed.
  • Performs health inspections, code enforcement inspections, foster home and daycare inspections, school inspections.
  • Inspects commercial and residential locations to ensure that regulations specified in federal, state and City codes are being followed.
  • Tracks and maintains restaurant facilities and assists with district assignments.
  • Assists in preparing case reports for court and administrative proceedings; testifies in court and at proceedings when necessary.
  • Works with and educates the general public with regards to enforcement of laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Receives and responds to citizen complaints; enters, processes, and acquires data for complaints, research, and investigations.

_ Requirements_

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Valid Texas Driver's License
  • TDLR Code Enforcement I within 6 months of employment
  • DSHS Food Manager Certification within 3 months of employment
