Job Summary:


Upper West Side Endoscopy is seeking a Full-Time Endoscopy Technician to provide support for physicians and registered nurses throughout endoscopy procedures by preparing, providing, and caring for instruments and equipment.


Key Areas of Responsibility:


  • Procedure room setup and tear
- down Scope maintenance and reprocessing

  • Ensuring that all reprocessing of scopes meets the standards set up by the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates and of the endoscope manufacturers as verified by the yearly competency. When the endoscopes do not need meet the standards, they are prepared for repair (after HLD) following notification of Nurse Manager and manufacturers repair representatives.
  • Assist physicians and nurses during endoscopy procedure
  • Procedure room stocking and ensuring that all supplies remain at par level
  • Unpack supplies and orders, stock shelves, manage the proper storage, stock rotation, and distribution of supplies for the Endoscopy Unit.
  • Maintain accurate logs for scope reprocessing, HLD potency, eye wash station efficiency and other QA testing as required by hospital/state or AAAHC requirement and reporting any problems or deficiencies to nurse manager and Infection Prevention Practitioners
  • Demonstrates appropriate sterile and aseptic techniques, at all times in the surgery suite.
  • Demonstrates appropriate dress, according to policy, at all times in the surgery suite.
  • Demonstrates care of delicate instrumentation by proper handling and storage of instruments used on assigned cases.
  • Assists in disinfecting, cleaning and preparation for sterilization, any instruments, equipment, and supplies utilized at Center.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to operate equipment used in processing, instrumentation, such as an ultrasonic cleaner, washerdisinfector, Steris System I and autoclave, using the appropriate settings.
  • Assists in surgery suite maintenance including case preparation, turnover, and terminal cleaning. Follows AORN Recommended Practices and Center policy.
  • Assists with inventory control and stocking of supplies.
  • Assists visitors, staff and physicians, utilizing good guest relations.
  • Acts as a resource person to other members of the staff.
  • Adheres to all infection control policies including OSHA guidelines for Universal Precautions for exposure to blood and body fluids, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and sharps handling.
  • Assists in orientation of new personnel, students, and approved program participants by explaining and demonstrating techniques and methods used in Center units and answering questions appropriately.
  • Participates in the Quality Improvement Program activities including identification of aspects of care, collection and analysis of data, formulation of recommendations, and implementation of an improvement plan and evaluation of the process.
  • Attends staff and unit meetings and educational opportunities.
  • Prioritizes job responsibilities to facilitate optimum patient care and utilization of resources.
  • Demonstrates flexibility in meeting the needs of the Center and the clinical units.
  • Maintains all required certifications. Performs effectively in an emergency situation.
  • Maintains strict patient and professional confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) required
  • One year experience preferred in an ambulatory GI and/or multispecialty setting
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
  • Requires prolonged periods of standing in place at sterile field.
  • Requires ability to perform lifting and transport of patients; and lifting of instrument trays and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and to organize work in order of importance.
  • Ability to work effectively in stressful situations and in a variety of surgical environments.
  • Requires manual dexterity to handle instrumentation, hearing to understand verbal instructions and near vision to distinguish supplies and instrumentation.'
