Job Summary:
The Student Employment and Financial Aid Counselor, under supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Employment, supports the Office of Student Employment and Financial Aid and students by overseeing the placement and payment functions of the Federal Work-Study program; works with departmental hiring managers to hire and terminate student employees; a primary responsibility is financial aid back-end processing support, including but not limited to, determining federal and state aid eligibility, conducting student need analysis, certify federal loan eligibility while ensuring compliance with University policies and federal financial aid and state employment law.

Job Responsibilities:
Maintains knowledge of federal and state regulations, and university policies related to financial aid programs to ensure the proper processing and documentation of student employment as well as all other federal and state programs.
Assists with developing and implementing policies and procedures that ensure consistency and equity in the delivery of Financial Aid funding.
Assists in the quality assurance efforts of the department, to include internal auditing of job assignments and student eligibility on a routine and systematic basis.
Assesses student needs; provides advice and guidance in employment counseling; matches employers/student needs with skills and abilities; counsels students on alternatives to work study funding.
Determines eligibility for, and awards, financial aid to students in accordance with federal, state, and university laws, regulations and/or guidelines.
Assists with the processing of the following federal and state aid programs: Cal Grant, Golden State Teacher's Grant, and the CHAFEE Grant, Federal Pell Grant, Federal TEACH Grant, Federal Direct Loans.
Leads the review and processing for subsequent ISIR review on a daily basis to ensure accuracy of financial aid eligibility.
Make corrections to the student's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and financial aid package when applicable due to verification.
Work with departmental hiring managers to hire and terminate student employees.
Monitors financial aid award reports for award changes, disqualifications and
reinstatements of students.
Monitors monthly earnings of students and notifies supervisors of eligible hours available; authorizes wage increases and payments for students.
Maintain, develop, and enhance the Student Employment webpage and social media efforts related to student employment.
Facilitate and maintain positive interdepartmental relationships across USF customer service teams to foster a positive customer service experience for USF applicants and continuing students.
Promotes activities' programs and information that aid in student recruitment and retention.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required.
Minimum of 2 years work experience in Higher Education, preferably in Financial Aid, or Student Employment
Working knowledge of Title IV regulations.
Strong command of the English language, both verbally and written.
Public presentation skills, and willingness to utilize such skills.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with an ability to advise students.
Detail and goal oriented with excellent organizational skills that enable one to organize and prioritize multiple complex projects and tasks simultaneously.
Ability to spend extended periods of productive time conducting business on the telephone and/or utilizing a computer keyboard while viewing the computer screen.
Must be able to obtain and retain user access to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), i.e., may not be in default on any student loans or owe repayment of any federal or state grants.
