- Requires an endorsement as a School Guidance Counselor (NT) or must possess a valid Michigan School Counselor License through the Michigan Department of Education.
- MA in School Guidance and Counseling.
- Must be proficient and knowledgeable regarding all counseling duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to scheduling, assisting students as needed, meeting with students individually and in groups, working with parents and coordinating activities.
- Teaching experience, preferred, at the High School level.
- Ability to guide and counsel students through the development process of educational career plans.
- Capacity to lead small group instruction to address targeted teenage situational issues / targeted behaviors.
- Demonstrated knowledge of multiple intervention strategies with individuals and groups.
- Experience with technology and multimedia to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement.
- Willingness to be actively involved in the school improvement process.
- Knowledge and Experience using MISTAR / MISTAR-Q applications including building Master Schedules, Student Schedules, Running Progress Reports / Report Cards / Attendance Summary Reports, etc.
- Experience with Standardized Test protocol, test administration and testing accommodations, i.e., M-Step / SAT / PSAT / ACT / EXPLORE / WORK KEYS
- Ability to work in a multicultural setting.
- Implement Comprehensive Guidance, Counseling, and Academic Support Program.
- Nurtures home - school - community relationships.
- Familiarity with NEA's PTHVP program, a plus.
- Manage and facilitate mandated testing programs and student assessment tools according to recognized standards and protocol.
- Familiar with the M-Step and nationally normed tests and other student assessment and evaluation tools, able to interpret and explain results to students, parents, faculty, and use those results to help plan educational programs for students.
- Promote effective interpersonal relations with diverse populations.
- Establishes a cooperative and supportive relationship with all students.
- Coordinate student "At Risk" programs and services.
- Fosters and maintains positive / collaborative relationships with parents and guardians of students.
- Utilize technology applications for spreadsheet and data base in working with test scores and other data.
- Effectively interpret multiple forms of assessment and progress monitoring data to help plan and guide building level academic instruction and decisions to influence overall student achievement.
- Completes and maintains Master Schedule, Student Scheduling, Academic Progress Reports / Grade Reports, documentation and record keeping in accordance with District policies and procedures.
- Provide conflict resolution skills for students.
- Apply knowledge of PBIS best practices to meet student needs.
- Ability to effectively communicate, coordinate and collaborate with Instructional colleagues, ancillary staff, Administration, parents, and building staff to facilitate student progress and growth.
- Function as a collaborative and contributing team member within the school staff.
- Assist students in developing educational plans.
- Provide transitional activities for students (Elementary School to Middle School / Middle School to High School.)
- Facilitate the integration of the Guidance Curriculum into the Educational Program of the Middle School.
- Contributes and participates in efforts related to building and District Goals.
- Perform other duties as may be related to the position.
- The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 25 pounds in supplies which requires bending, stooping and lifting.
- The employee must be able to use a variety of instructional materials in the classroom.
- The employee must use hands and arms to manipulate objects.
- The employee must use keyboards, tools and other controls.
- The employee must sit and stand for long periods of time.
- The employee must have normal vision and hearing with or without aid.
- The employee must be able to move about assigned location unaided during the day.
- The noise level in the work environment will vary and can range from soft to loud. Often the noise level is the work environment will be moderate to loud.
- The employee is required to interact with students, staff, parents / guardians and occasionally with the public.
