The Santa Clarita Community College District/College of the Canyons is seeking a
part-time Athletic Trainer (47.5%) in the Instruction division.



Salary Placement:


Salary placement will be on
Range 45 of Classified Represented Salary Schedule B.
Initial salary step placement for new employees is customarily at step 1, 2, or 3 ($3, / $3, / $3, per month, as pro-rated for a 47.5% position) of this 20-step salary range.**
Probationary period for new Classified employees is six months.
Work year is 12 calendar months. The
normal workweek for this position is
19 hours.
Paid holiday, discretionary, vacation, personal necessity and sick time are provided, and will be pro-rated based on hours worked. A regular work schedule will be assigned, with the ability to work a flexible schedule as needed with supervisor approval.

Position Description:


Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the
Athletic Trainer (47.5%) develops and implements programs for the prevention of injuries to student athletes, administers first aid and emergency medical care, evaluates and diagnoses athletic-related injuries and illnesses, makes return to play decisions, administers therapeutic treatment, and implements rehabilitation for injuries.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops policies and procedures in emergency management, treatment and reconditioning of injuries and illnesses for student athletes, including an annual review and update of policies as necessary.
  • Inspects and evaluates locker rooms, showers, playing fields, practice fields, and athletic equipment to ensure safety and reduce hazards.
  • Administers first aid and emergency medical care including lifesaving procedures to student athletes, as well as to students, faculty and staff as needed. Coordinates with emergency medical personnel and physicians to develop procedures to be followed in the event of participation related injury or emergency.
  • In the absence of the team physician, makes judgments concerning the ability of the injured athlete to safely participate in intercollegiate sports.
  • Evaluates, diagnoses, and documents clinical findings of injured student athletes.
  • Maintains accurate medical records using electronic medical record keeping software and protects privileged information.
  • Schedules and facilitates appointments with appropriate health care provider within appropriate insurance network.
  • Creates treatment and rehabilitation plans for injured studentathletes and supervises their return to play progression.
  • When unable to provide rehabilitation services in athletic training clinic, coordinates postsurgical rehabilitation for student athletes injured at College of the Canyons to reduce financial impact to District, specifically the District's Student Athlete Insurance Policy, as well as minimizing student's out of pocket expenses.
  • Administers instrumentassisted soft tissue mobilization, instructs student athletes in the use of rehabilitation equipment, and operates related therapeutic modalities.
  • Refers injured students to the College health center coordinator or appropriate medical facility as necessary and completes necessary followup. Assists campus health center in reaching a diagnosis regarding orthopedic injuries when requested.
  • Composes and maintains accurate and detailed injury and treatment reports on student athletes.
  • Maintains athletic training clinic and equipment in a clean and operational condition ensuring all state and federal laws governing modality and rehab equipment use are followed.
  • Inventories and prepares the budget for athletic first aid medical supplies, taping and bracing supplies, rehabilitation supplies, and equipment for approval by the Athletic Director.
  • Processes all purchases for the athletic training clinic. Works with computerized budgets and paperless purchasing software.
  • Initiates negotiations for bids and contracts with outside vendors/providers. Maintains and renews outside provider contracts, medical equipment calibration, and affiliate clinical site contract for California State University, Northridge MSAT.
  • Facilitates communication between personnel, athletes, coaches, parents, administration and health care professionals concerning the health and physical wellbeing of athletes.
