Position Overview:


As a Medical Assistant at the Chicago Center for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery, you are the backbone of our day-to-day clinical operations.

You ensure that every patient experiences personalized and attentive care, embodying our commitment to excellence in orthopedic services.

Your role is integral to the patient journey, from the initial greeting to the final review of their care plan.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities:


Clinical Duties:


  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for the physician by obtaining medical histories, measuring vital signs, and recording height/weight.
  • Assist physicians with examinations, procedures, treatments, and ensure patient comfort and safety.
  • Manage wound care provisions, apply, and remove splints/casts, and assist with injectable medications as needed.
  • Coordinate patient referrals for additional services such as therapy, home health, surgical procedures, and durable medical equipment (DME).

Administrative Duties:


  • Organize medical records and ensure they are updated and accurately maintained within our EMR system.
  • Handle patient phone messages promptly, providing clear and concise information.
  • Manage the scheduling of appointments and procedures, ensuring proper preauthorizations are obtained.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with patients, providing them with updates on care plans and resolving any issues.

Liaison Activities:


  • Serve as a liaison between patients and physicians, facilitating effective communication and expedient problem resolution.
  • Coordinate with various departments and external entities to secure necessary medical documentation and facilitate patient care.

Operational Support:


  • Maintain examination and procedure rooms, ensuring they are orderly, stocked, and ready for patient visits.
  • Perform necessary environmental responsibilities, including infection control according to OSHA regulations.
  • Assist in managing clinic supplies, notifying management when stock is low.

Educational and Professional Development:


  • Attend staff meetings and educational activities to remain informed about the latest insurance and registration issues.
  • Stay updated on practice management and EHR software, medical terminology, and CPT/ICD10 codes.

Qualifications & Skills:


  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program (CMA).
  • Current CPR certification or the ability to obtain it upon hire.
  • Experience with casting, DME, and orthopedic procedures is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), particularly eCW, and adeptness with technology.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills to ensure quality patient care and team collaboration.
  • Ability to work in a fastpaced environment, multitask efficiently, and follow through on tasks to completion.
  • A positive attitude, selfmotivation, and the capacity to work independently or as part of a dynamic team.

Physical Demands:


  • The position requires a full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients when necessary, manual and finger dexterity, and eyehand coordination.
  • Occasionally lifting objects up to 35 lbs. may be required.

Work Environment:


  • The work environment is a clinical outpatient setting with direct patient interaction. The role involves frequent standing and walking, with periodic sitting for administrative tasks.
