Position Description_**The Golf Equipment/Shop Assistant performs duties at Randall Oaks Golf Club and Bonnie Dundee Golf club under the direct supervision of the Equipment Manager and Assistant Superintendents; assists the Equipment Manager with the maintenance, repairs and upkeep of the equipment fleet and maintenance buildings, operates powered mowing equipment, tractors, small powered hand equipment, uses power tools and hand tools.

Additionally, the Equipment/Shop Assistant assists with the daily course setup and irrigation system maintenance as required.

Essential Responsibilities_**- Assists the Equipment Manager and other technicians with equipment repairs.

  • Maintains neat and organized personal work spaces.
  • Assists in maintaining the maintenance facility buildings in a clean, neat and organized manner.
  • Washing and polishing equipment.
  • Capable of operating all equipment in the fleet. Training provided.
  • Fueling equipment.
  • Parking and staging equipment on a daily basis.
  • Lubing and greasing equipment.
  • Checking oil on all equipment and maintaining proper operating levels.
  • Checking and setting cutting units for the next day.
  • Assists in irrigation and drainage installation and repairs.
  • Reports equipment problems and failures to the equipment mechanic immediately.
  • Complies with all safety and loss prevention policies.
  • Inform supervisor of any unsafe conditions or hazardous work procedures.
  • Correct any unsafe conditions, if possible, and instruct coworkers on safety procedures.
  • Completes all additional duties as prescribed by management.
  • Assists other Park District employees when needed.

_ Marginal Functions_

  • Assists with daily course setup to include but not limited to; setting up the practice tee, mowing greens, tees, approaches, fairways, raking bunkers, banks, rough and trim mowing.
  • Assists in course improvement projects.
  • Performs general custodial duties.
  • Paints, repairs, cleans facilities or equipment as required.

_ Communication & Customer Service_

  • Develops and maintains positive and effective working relationships with coworkers.
  • Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.
  • Ensures that matters of importance are shared to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Solicits feedback and actively listens to subordinates, peers and patrons.
  • Makes recommendations for improvements and efficiencies.
  • Attends meetings and participates on teams as required.
  • Represents the Dundee Township Park District in a professional manner.

_ Safety & Risk Management _

  • Maintains a working knowledge of all general and departmentalspecific safety rules.
  • Immediately reports all accidents and unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
  • Cooperates and assists in the investigation of accidents.
  • Attends all required safety program and inservice education meetings.
  • Treats public complaints and concerns with the utmost attention. Is courteous in all cases.
  • Pays strict attention to housekeeping of work area(s) and general facility.
  • Must be able to use personal protective equipment based on job specific tasks, which may include, but is not limited to, the following: Safety goggles/glasses, earplugs, ear covers, appropriate work boots, protective gloves, helmets/hard hats, masks.

_ Qualifications_

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Requires knowledge of and the ability to safely operate maintenance shop equipment
  • Working knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Physical strength and agility
  • Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  • Bilingual a plus.

_ Knowledge, Skills & Abilities_

  • Good physical condition, sufficient strength, and mobility required.
  • Mechanical aptitude required, including the use of tools, equipment.
  • Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English language.
  • Possess troubleshooting skills.
  • Capacity to act rationally and calmly in high stress and/or emergencies.
  • Ability to pay attention to detail.
  • Ability to execute the essential functions of the position without reasonable accommodation.

_ Hours Standards _
This is a seasonal non-exempt position, with the season beginning approximately mid-March through the end of November. Start times will be varied as the season progresses. Work hours will be flexible and agreed upon with supervisors. The Dundee Township Golf Clubs promote a healthy work/life balance philosophy. Weekend and holiday hours will be required as well as possible extended hours as needed hours/week.
