Financial Aid Counselor Job DescriptionMain Purpose of Position:
Director.
Some weekends and evenings may be required during certain times of the academic year.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- 12 years of work experience related to the described duties
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Understanding of, and sensitivity to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of college students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 23 years of experience utilizing a thirdparty, higher education student information system such as Banner, PeopleSoft, Powerfaids, etc.
- Experience with student services in higher education, especially Admissions, Student Accounts, Academic Advising, Registrar, Graduate School, Athletics, and/or Housing andDining.
- Thorough knowledge of available types of financial aid, scholarships, loan programs, and general student eligibility criteria.
- Knowledge of federal Title IV financial aid programs and of federal and state policies and regulations governing the various financial aid programs, to be compliant in awarding and advising students.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently in a team environment.
- Customer service experience requiring the ability to detail/explain complex regulatory/policy rules in an administrative/office setting.
- 12 years providing training and/or presentations to smallmedium size audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong problemsolving abilities and the ability to use sound judgment for decisionmaking.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Evaluate, verify, package, revise, and process financial aid in compliance with all Title IV, state, and institutional guidelines.
- Develops and maintains strong working knowledge of all aspects of verification, including federal requirements and tax return analysis.
- Develops and maintains strong working knowledge of all sources of student financial aid.
- Recalculates and makes changes to financial aid awards when students' eligibility changes.
- Maintains knowledge of policies of other departments (registrar, student accounts, human resources, athletics, etc.) and understands the impact of them on a student's financial aid eligibility.
- Participates and facilitate financial aid presentations during Open Houses, orientations, and other universityrelated activities.
- Assists in developing consumer information, including documents, forms, publications, and electronic media.
- Participates in state, regional, and national professional development opportunities to ensure a complete understanding of federal and state regulations and remains current on changes to the federal and state aid programs.
- Maintains student confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations.
- Performs related or similar duties as required or assigned
Pay:
$50, $55,000.00 per year
