OVERVIEW


North Brooklyn Parks Alliance (NBKParks)—the non-profit conservancy for parks and open spaces in Greenpoint & Williamsburg—is currently seeking motivated and energetic individuals to join a dedicated team working together to ensure that Under the K Bridge Park (UTK) and other local green spaces are thriving for the benefit of all North Brooklyn communities.

Founded in 2003 as the Open Space Alliance, the North Brooklyn Parks Alliance's mission is to create an equitable, accessible, and vibrant parks system in North Brooklyn.

***NBKParks Mobile Crew is responsible for supporting the care and maintenance of public plazas, dog runs, and public spaces within Brooklyn Community Board District 1. This team also supports NBKParks volunteer/stewardship events that occur within these public spaces. Mobile Crew members are responsible for collecting trash/litter, disposing of pet waste, basic horticulture care such as watering and weeding, graffiti removal, set-up/breakdown of event equipment, and general maintenance duties. Mobile Crew members are essential to NBKParks mission in supporting public space and stewardship. This role is also expected to interact with the NYC Department of Parks & Recreation, community members, and act as an ambassador of NBKParks. Mobile Crew members report to the Assistant Director of Operations.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help ensure that public green spaces under NBKParks' care are presentable, maintained, and operated at the highest standards of cleanliness and good repair
  • Trash removal, including picking up litter, emptying trash cans, and properly disposing of trash/horticulture waste
  • Proper graffiti removal as necessary
  • Clear storm drains of trash and debris to prevent flooding
  • Install park signage and communications materials as needed
  • Respond to services requests across the neighborhood in a timely manner
  • Document, address, and report damage within NYC Parks, public plazas and open streets
  • Operate power tools including power drills, chainsaws/circular saw, weed wackers, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, power washer, snow blowers, etc.
  • Ensure all NBKParks equipment is stored properly, kept in great working condition, and report equipment for repair as necessary
  • Safely operate NBKParks vehicles: including pickup trucks, box trucks, and offroad vehicles.
  • Setup/breakdown for public programming, events, and volunteer activities
  • Act as an NBKParks Ambassador in the public realm and with all external partners
  • Maintain the highest standards of personal and public safety; follow all policies/procedures, risk management, and safety precautions

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 23 years of demonstrated successful experience in a operational and/or technical capacity
  • Able to perform physical labor during a full shift including the ability to lift 50lbs, frequent bending and squatting, standing/walking for extended periods, etc.
  • Able to work in all weather conditions including cold/hot temperatures, rain, wind, and snow
  • Able to use basic power tools and equipment safely and effectively
  • Able to work in a dynamic and fastchanging work environment; flexible and willing to adjust to situations as they occur
  • Effective interpersonal communication (oral and written)
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality work
  • Experience using heavy machinery including skid steers and fork lifts, a plus
  • Must have a smartphone
  • Must have a valid New York driver's license during employment

COMPENSATION AND HOURS
This seasonal position starts ASAP and runs to November 15, with opportunities for extension. The position offers a varied schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends. Staff should expect to work Saturdays and Sundays. Includes approx. 35 hours of work/week at $20/hour.

$20.00 per hour
