Purpose Statement:

The Learning Strategies Teacher provides guidance and support to students in grades 6-12 that require academic assistance.


Scope:

This position is multi-faceted in that the teacher maintains communication with students, parents, teachers, and administrators, with the primary focus on supporting students with learning difficulties in secondary school.


Specific Responsibilities:


  • Model Christ in word and deed
  • Take guidance and counsel from your Department Head
  • Meets with each student to identify individual goals and focus the need for the quarter
  • Communicate student progress or lack of progress to ESE Administrator
  • Communicate with teachers to get assignments, notes, and outlines for an upcoming test
  • Keep students accountable for homework and class assignments
  • Motivate students to reach their full potential for success
  • Assist teachers in determining appropriate interventions and accommodations to use wit students in the general education classroom
  • Assist in assessments for the child study team
  • Keep accurate attendance
  • Evaluate and document student progress on an ongoing basis to ensure their needs are being met
  • Maintain records on students
  • Develop and implement a behavior plan
  • Participate in Child Study team meetings when necessary
  • Work with ESE Administrator and teachers to modify the classroom environment and curriculum as needed
  • Proctor students during Standardized Testing
  • Attend/participate in Back to School Night and other school scheduled events by administration
  • Participate in the accreditation process for the school's continuous improvement plan
  • Participate in professional development to stay current in your field.
  • Participate in scheduled department meetings
  • Fulfill any assigned supervisor duties
  • Create long and shortterm goals for students
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and teachers daily
  • Attend the Chapel that is scheduled for your predominant grade level
  • Adhere to specified professional dress code
  • Compile and maintain an up to date substitute folder
  • Secure and straighten up the classroom at the end of each day
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and sit or stand for an extended period of time

Qualifications/Skills/Gifts:


  • Strong commitment to Jesus Christ and His Word
  • Strong commitment to the Philosophy and Statement of Faith of Calvary Chapel and to the Mission Statement of Calvary Christian Academy
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with children, parents, and colleagues
  • Bachelor Degree in Exceptional Student Education or related field
  • Florida State Certification in Secondary Education and/or Florida Professional Certification, ACSI Certification or CSI Certification
  • Committed to ongoing professional development to maintain certifications and professional knowledge in order to meet met annual license requirements.
  • Spiritual gifts of teaching, discernment, administration, leadership, service, and exhortation
  • Attended a fouryear program majoring in Special Education, certification and experience preferred
  • Superior communication skills
  • Energetic, motivated, innovative, and prepared
  • Organizational skills
  • Computer skills
  • An ability to work collaboratively

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.

4:00 p.m.


Full time (40 hours/week); however, the incumbent may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a CCA event, or assist with a special project or in a circumstantial emergency affecting the church facilities.
