Description

Are you positive, fun, and enjoy working with kids? Do you also love horses? We are looking for mature college students and adults of all ages to supervise campers ages 6-12 in a small (40 kids) camp environment.

We are a Hunter/Jumper riding stable in northwest Austin offering weeklong camps beginning May 27 and ending August 9. What do Adult Supervisors do? Most importantly, you ensure campers are safe at all times.

You'll be responsible for overseeing their activities by supervising arts & crafts, outdoor games, and educational components related to riding and horsemanship, as well as helping groups move to tack up area.

Comfort with horses important, basic knowledge of horses very helpful but not required.

Being reliable, able to build good relationships with children, and manage a group of kids effectively are of highest priority.


Responsibilities

  • Help create a "Great Hello and Warm Goodbye" for campers and parents at signin and checkout every morning and end of day.
  • Follow daily schedule of morning meetings, outdoor games, riding, barn walks, indoor arts & crafts, and indoor games. Schedule is provided but creativity in games, rainy day activities, and craft activities is welcome.
  • Escort and oversee campers as they are going from one activity to another on our property.
  • Resolve any disagreements between children and address behavioral issues.
  • Make sure all safety rules are followed.
  • Ensure Camp House is clean and tidy at end of day.
  • Perform first aid or take care of injuries as needed.
  • Keep accurate incident logs.

Skills

  • Proven experience as Camp Counselor, teacher, or similar role working with children
  • Familiarity with horses a plus
  • Patient and reliable
  • Organizational and communication skills
  • A love for children
  • Energetic and positive personality
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. We are outside in unshaded arenas with horses in the sun and heat of Texas summer. We do have an airconditioned Camp House and have water activities in the summer (not a pool). Job may also require sitting on the ground, crouching, dancing, and carrying English saddles or equipment.
