    Job Summary

    UChicago Consortium is seeking a Research Analyst II with strong data manipulation, quantitative research, and programming skills, and a passion for doing meaningful work to help schools become more equitable. The successful candidate will provide on-going support across Consortium studies and be a part of one or two teams of Consortium researchers. The Research Analyst II will provide data and analytic support throughout the life cycle of projects, including cleaning and documenting data sources, creating large-scale data bases, and applying different statistical approaches.

    The successful candidate will have a commitment to urban education, be deeply curious, and be willing to learn new methods and topics. The Research Analyst II position requires someone who is able to independently handle multiple concurrent tasks and work in a highly collaborative environment. The Research Analyst II will have opportunities to share findings and work collaboratively with other scholars and researchers, non-profit leaders, school practitioners, district administrators, and local policymakers. The successful candidate will contribute to the organization's capacity to conduct rigorous, actionable quantitative research on the Chicago Public Schools. This position is in-person for the first six months, and has an option to be hybrid after six months.

    Responsibilities

  • Work with other Consortium researchers to conceptualize, design, and plan research projects.
  • Identify appropriate statistical techniques that will answer different research questions and find ways to interpret the results of analyses.
  • Create specialized data bases by merging multiple, complex data sources, including school-, student-, teacher-, community-, and neighborhood-based files.
  • Conduct data quality control procedures and update and create internal processes and data documentation for Consortium projects and data library.
  • Contribute to conceptualizing, designing, and planning research projects, framing research questions, and particularly identifying appropriate data sources from the Consortium library.
  • Conduct statistical analysis of large-scale databases using R, SAS, or STATA, including both simple descriptive group comparisons and advanced statistical modeling.
  • Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
  • Create visualizations of findings.
  • Perform key project management tasks such as manage project timelines, schedule meetings, organize project records, and other administrative tasks.
  • Communicate and present research findings geared toward a broad audience (scholars, practitioners, policymakers).
  • Participate and present findings at team and organization-wide meetings.
  • Actively participate in organization-wide activities, including serving on committees, attending weekly Consortium-wide meetings, and providing feedback on others' work.
  • Performs a range of activities to facilitate the design of research project and the publication of their results. Uses knowledge of statistics to help develop objectives and statistical procedures for the project.
  • Helps develop and implements new innovative procedures in the areas of data collection, quality control, presentation of results, and statistical analysis.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    Education:

    Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, economics, sociology or other relevant social science or mathematical discipline.
  • Master's degree in public policy, economics, sociology or other relevant social science or mathematical discipline strongly preferred.
  • Coursework in statistics or data science.
  • Experience:

  • At least 2-3 years of experience in urban education research, policy and practice strongly preferred.
  • Preferred Competencies

  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of multivariate statistics (including multiple regression and logistic regression).
  • Experience with manipulating data and building datasets.
  • Strong skills in one or more programming languages (e.g., R, Stata, SAS Python).
  • Ability to use R, STATA, or SAS in a UNIX environment strongly preferred.
  • Ability to take initiative and a proactive approach to tasks and projects.
  • Passion for improving educational outcomes and supporting actionable uses of research evidence.
  • Commitment to understanding and improving outcomes for students of all backgrounds and experiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently, with supervision, and in collaboration as a team member.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
