Provides restorative nursing programs within the scope of CNA practice.
Provides therapy delegated programs that are taught and supervised by therapy and beyond the scope and practice of a CNA.
The position is a nursing function and reports directly to the restorative nurse or a position in the nursing department.
The position works closely with therapy. Works collaboratively with the CNAs and nurses to see that residents receive their programs as planned.Qualifications and Skills:
Licensed Certified Nursing AssistantMinimum of two year of clinical, bedside CNA experience an evidence of positive evaluationsKnowledge and skills in basic restorative nursing principles and practicesEvidence of ability to work as a member of the teamReliable, good judgment and takes initiativeAble to follow verbal and written instructions, able to write in EnglishPhysical ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and have manual dexterityUnderstands and embraces the facility restorative philosophyCommunication, organizational, and documentation skillsDemonstrates accountability and responsibility
Job Duties:
Provides restorative programs: ROM; AmbulationBed mobility, positioning and transfer techniquesApplication of splints, braces, cones, prosthetic devices and care of limbs where appliedAssistive feeding devices and Restorative Dining techniques (cueing and swallowing)
Activity of dialing living (bathing, dressing, grooming, personal hygiene)Incontinent managementTransferCommunicationParticipates in restorative dining program, directs regular CNAs about resident restorative dining programsServes as a resource and role model for CNAsDocuments program completion everyday and narrative progress notes as required by facility policyAttends restorative meeting and care plan conferencesReports unusual problems regarding resident car to nursing staff immediately:
pain, refusals, falls, etcReports malfunctioning or improperly fitting equipment and equipment needs to therapy and restorative nursePlaces preventative/pressure relief mattresses and wheelchair cushions as directed by Restorative NurseOffers suggestions and provides input into development of interdisciplinary plan of careAssists with general orientation and on-going restorative nursing in-servicesParticipates in the facility Quality Improvement Program as directed by the Restorative Nurse, and reports areas needing improvementKeeps skills current and enhances present skills by attendance to in-services and seminarsParticipates in transfer of residents from Level II to Level IIIAssists with Phase II classes, as directedPerforms therapy delegated tasks under the direction and supervision of TherapyAssuring Resident Safety 12 hour shifts - Rotating weekends
