Description

Portage Community School District is looking for a full time evening custodian. The schedule is 8 hours per day, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. District-wide annual raises take effect on July 1st.

Summary

The school custodian plays an essential role in maintaining the building, and supporting a learning environment that promotes health, attitude and pride of students.

Qualifications;

• High school diploma is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of use and maintenance of industrial cleaning equipment and appliances a plus.
• Initiative and ability to work with mínimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Complete daily/recurring tasks inside to ensure spaces are prepared for the next day;
a. Sweeping, mopping, stripping, vacuuming, buffing floors, cleaning desks, cleaning windows, and drinking fountains.

b. Empty and clean waste and recycling containers

c. Clean restrooms; including floors, walls, fixtures, appliances and mirrors. Restock supplies.

Physical Requirements;

• Ability to pass physical prior to employment.
• Ability to lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to work from a stepladder at a height of 10 feet.
• Ability to perform the following tasks over a sustained period of time: climbing, lifting, walking, stooping, bending, sweeping, twisting, turning, shoveling, and standing.
• Ability to read instructions, labels, and other printed matter and for safe operation of equipment.
• Ability to understand written and verbal communications.
• Have a normal tolerance of and not be allergic to common maintenance chemicals.
• Attention to detail and conscientiousness.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.
• Professional presentation and attitude.
• Tests may be administered to determine the extent to which an employee meets the job description.
• Regular attendance and punctuality.
• The employee shall remain free of an alcohol or illegal substance in the workplace.

Pay:
From $16.25 per hour
