The Plant Manager reports to the General Manager, and is located in Valparaiso, Indiana.


This is a large Corrugating plant with two corrugators, top of the line converting machines, and a state of the art electronic warehouse.

The Plant Manager directs production, distribution, maintenance, receiving, and supervision operations for the Plant, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads all departments in the plant with department superintendents to maintain safety, quality, and efficient production.
  • Coordinates production, distribution, and warehousing in accordance with policies, principles, and established procedures.
  • Develops and implements plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees.
  • Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of plant.
  • Directs preparation of production, manning and labor/costs records.
  • Responsible for operations budgets.
  • Maintains positive working relationship with sales management and customer service management.
  • Systematically reviews financial performance of the plant to recommend to management opportunities for sales growth and cost savings.
  • Coordinates plant safety, environmental and training activities in cooperation leadership teams.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise all plant employees.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Training Employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED plus college and/or appropriate technical courses
  • Five years' experience as a proven manager
  • Corrugated manufacturing experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:
The individual must have a working knowledge of the following:
Equipment design and capabilities that can be translated into efficient operation. This also supports the supervisor's role of teacher and trainer for his/her personnel.

Cost issues in order to make daily decisions that will reduce overall costs and will help the supervisor find areas that require improvement.

Budget development, adherence and analysis. Quality standards.

Regulatory requirements including but not limited to wage and hour requirements, environmental and waste minimization, company policies, and personnel requirements including OSHA, DEQ and EEO.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
