Chemist

Location: EPA Region 3 Sites (Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and West Virginia)
Key Responsibilities:
Environmental Sample Collection:
- Conduct multimedia field sampling, including soil, water, air, and biological samples.
- Ensure proper sample collection, handling, and transportation procedures to maintain sample integrity.
- Perform field tests and measurements as required.
Laboratory Analysis:
- Conduct chemical analyses of environmental samples using various analytical techniques and instruments (e.g., GC/MS, HPLC, ICP-MS).
- Develop and validate analytical methods for the detection and quantification of contaminants.
- Ensure all laboratory procedures comply with EPA regulations and quality standards.
Data Validation and Reporting:
- Validate and interpret analytical data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing analytical results and findings.
- Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities and data analyses.
Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Implement and adhere to Quality Assurance Project Plans (UFP-QAPP) and standard operating procedures.
- Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
- Stay updated with advancements in analytical techniques and regulatory changes.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical support and expertise to project teams regarding chemical analyses and data interpretation.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technical staff to support environmental investigations and remediation efforts.
- Participate in systematic planning meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental chemistry, particularly with EPA projects.
- Proven experience with environmental sample collection, laboratory analysis, and data validation.
- Familiarity with EPA regulations and quality assurance standards.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and techniques.
- Proficiency with analytical instruments and software tools for data analysis.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problemsolving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a project team.
