Job Title:
Chemist

Location: EPA Region 3 Sites (Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and West Virginia)


Key Responsibilities:

Environmental Sample Collection:


  • Conduct multimedia field sampling, including soil, water, air, and biological samples.
  • Ensure proper sample collection, handling, and transportation procedures to maintain sample integrity.
  • Perform field tests and measurements as required.

Laboratory Analysis:


  • Conduct chemical analyses of environmental samples using various analytical techniques and instruments (e.g., GC/MS, HPLC, ICP-MS).
  • Develop and validate analytical methods for the detection and quantification of contaminants.
  • Ensure all laboratory procedures comply with EPA regulations and quality standards.

Data Validation and Reporting:


  • Validate and interpret analytical data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing analytical results and findings.
  • Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities and data analyses.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:


  • Implement and adhere to Quality Assurance Project Plans (UFP-QAPP) and standard operating procedures.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay updated with advancements in analytical techniques and regulatory changes.

Technical Support:


  • Provide technical support and expertise to project teams regarding chemical analyses and data interpretation.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technical staff to support environmental investigations and remediation efforts.
  • Participate in systematic planning meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.

Qualifications:

Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.
D.) preferred.


Experience:


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental chemistry, particularly with EPA projects.
  • Proven experience with environmental sample collection, laboratory analysis, and data validation.
  • Familiarity with EPA regulations and quality assurance standards.

Skills:


  • Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and techniques.
  • Proficiency with analytical instruments and software tools for data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problemsolving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a project team.

License/Certification:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required)

Willingness to travel:
