Job Title:
Chemist

Location: EPA Region 3 Sites (Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia (DC), and West Virginia)

Key Responsibilities:

Environmental Sample Collection:

Conduct multimedia field sampling, including soil, water, air, and biological samples.
Ensure proper sample collection, handling, and transportation procedures to maintain sample integrity.
Perform field tests and measurements as required.

Laboratory Analysis:

Conduct chemical analyses of environmental samples using various analytical techniques and instruments (e.g., GC/MS, HPLC, ICP-MS).
Develop and validate analytical methods for the detection and quantification of contaminants.
Ensure all laboratory procedures comply with EPA regulations and quality standards.

Data Validation and Reporting:

Validate and interpret analytical data to ensure accuracy and reliability.
Prepare detailed technical reports summarizing analytical results and findings.
Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities and data analyses.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

Implement and adhere to Quality Assurance Project Plans (UFP-QAPP) and standard operating procedures.
Participate in internal and external audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Stay updated with advancements in analytical techniques and regulatory changes.

Technical Support:

Provide technical support and expertise to project teams regarding chemical analyses and data interpretation.
Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other technical staff to support environmental investigations and remediation efforts.
Participate in systematic planning meetings and contribute to project planning and execution.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.

D.) preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental chemistry, particularly with EPA projects.
Proven experience with environmental sample collection, laboratory analysis, and data validation.
Familiarity with EPA regulations and quality assurance standards.

Skills:

Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and techniques.
Proficiency with analytical instruments and software tools for data analysis.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and problemsolving skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a project team.
