This is a student position responsible for assisting SFA faculty and staff during the Conservation Careers Summer Camp.

The Camp Associate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day events of the camp, including but not limited to: overseeing the Camp Counselors, managing the camp agenda, and serving as the liaison between the Camp Director and the Camp Counselors to ensure the camp runs smoothly and efficiently.

This person will work under immediate supervision of the camp Director.

This position is temporary for one week (June 2- June 30, The associate will be expected to meet with the Camp Director regularly leading up to the camp.

The Camp Associate will receive $800 for the week of camp and additional pay for various work days prior to the event.

The associate will be required to stay at the dorms with the students attending the camp. This position has the potential to serve as an internship credit pending professor approval.

Job Duties

  • Assists and oversees camper activities.
  • Monitors and helps facilitate activities.
  • Supervises camp counselors.
  • Follows and ensures safety and emergency procedures and guidelines.
  • May perform administrative tasks (filing, record keeping, etc.) as needed.
  • Works oneonone with camp counselors and campers.
  • Serves as primary point of contact daily camp activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty and staff, students and the general public.

Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge in the field of Forestry, Environmental Science, or Geospatial Science is preferred.

Camp Counselor experience is preferred.

Physical Demands

Must be able to complete strenuous tasks in difficult conditions, including environmental. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Special Conditions for Eligibility


To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.


Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
