Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator In Training

Buckskin Sanitary District was formed in 1984 to serve as the wastewater management agency for the portion of La Paz County known as Parker Strip to address the increase problems related to failures of septic tanks and leach fields.

The Parker Strip is located along the Colorado River between Parker Dam and the CRIT Indian reservation boundary northeast of the Town of Parker and southwest of the City of Lake Havasu.

Buckskin Sanitary District currently owns and operates the Buckskin WWTP which has a design capacity of 228,000 gallons per day (gpd) and 14 lift stations. The WWTP process is a conventional activated sludge followed by sand filtration, and disinfection by chlorination. The average daily flow is 100,000 gallons per day (gpd) and all treated effluent is recycled.

JOB DESCRIPTION




LOCATION:
Parker Strip, Arizona





POSITION:
Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator in Training (OIT)





JOB SUMMARY:

Under administrative direction from the Lead Operator the Operator in Training is expected to operate, monitor, maintain, and trouble-shoot the wastewater treatment facility, lift stations and its processes.

Work involves responsibility for the technical aspects of plant operations, compliance with state and federal operating regulations, and conveyance sewer system.

Work is performed with considerable independence under the direction of the Lead Operator.





SCHEDULE:
Monday thru Friday/ Flexible Work Schedule. Must be able to be on call, holidays, weekends and overtime as required.





SALARY:
$22.26 Hourly ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
:


- Monitor plant operations equipment and processes to ensure compliance with environmental and public health standards, including monitoring and adjusting as needed to optimize efficiency, making chemical dosage changes, changing pumping rates, and monitoring all equipment daily.

- Read, record, and calculate readings of meters and gauges; interpret information into operational characteristics; make process adjustments according to information gathered, samples collected, readings, and records.

- Perform proper usage and handling of chemicals according to industry standards, including chlorine and odor control chemicals.

- Operate and perform preventive maintenance on a variety of treatment plant equipment, such as electric motors, submersible pumps, power generation systems, air release valves, analyzers, filters, chemical feed systems, aerobic digesters, chlorinators, air diffusers, screen auger, blowers, and motor control centers.

- Operate valves, pumps, and automated controls to regulate the flow of wastewater through the system.

- Lubricate pumps, motors, chains, conveyors, and other machinery and equipment.

- Maintain accurate records of gauge and meter readings, chemical test

results, and work performed.

- Maintain facilities, grounds, and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

- Use a variety of hand and power tools and testing equipment.

- Perform preventative maintenance and services equipment according to an established schedule; inspect facilities and equipment to determine the need for maintenance or repair.

- Observe safe work methods and make appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.

- Respond to emergency situations as necessary.

- Performs other duties as assigned by the Lead Operator.

ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

High School diploma or GED.

Ability to communicate clearly in English (verbally and written).

Valid Arizona Driver's License.
-
Have a working knowledge of basic machinery preventive maintenance and repair.

Have the ability to work with independence and to make routine decisions on the operation of the plant processes and equipment during the Lead Operator's absence.

SPECIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Employee frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and reach with hands and arms. Employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Employee must regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 50 pounds.
