Summary:

Groundskeeper is under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Grounds and general supervision of Director of Maintenance, Operations & Grounds to perform routine grounds maintenance and gardening work at a school site; to do other work as assigned.

Performs routine grounds and landscape maintenance of public access grounds, gardens, and assists with upkeep of sport/play fields, planting and horticulture.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Mows, edges, aerates, and reseeds lawns. Trims shrubs, hedges, and trees. Hoes weeds and rakes lawns. Operates and cleans power riding lawn mowers, power blowers, common trucks, and other motorized equipment requiring similar skill.
Assists with planting and cultivating of trees, grass, flowers, and shrubs. Spades, applies nutrients, and otherwise prepares grounds for planting.
Removes weeds, blows, rakes, and removes trash and debris from walkways, culverts, stairways, roadways, planters, and parking. Maintains inground drains and culverts.
Assists other Landscape and Grounds Specialists in excavating and contouring district grounds, and in constructing, maintaining, and repairing play structures.
Cleans and assists with repairs of fields/play areas and facilities following events. Performs general grounds cleanup including picking up paper and trash on grounds areas. Performs maintenance and cleaning of structures such as storage sheds, restrooms, and seating areas.
Assists, by serving as a helper and laborer in the construction, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems. Digs trenches, unloads and relocates materials, and cleans tools and equipment.
May assist structural maintenance specialists with projects on an intermittent basis.
Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Qualifications:

Abilities:

Education and Experience:

High School diploma or GED.
One (1) year of experience in gardening, nursery work or grounds maintenance, and experience in operation of light duty grounds equipment.

Licenses and Certificates:

Requires a valid Driver's License.

Additional Requirement:

Must pass an approved preplacement medical assessment.

Salary and Terms of Service:

Salary range (30) $ $23.99 per hour, eight (8) steps, eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week (M-F), 12 months per year.
